BURLESON, Texas — Youngsters in a suburban Fort Worth school district are being taught not to sit there like good boys and girls with their hands folded if a gunman invades the classroom, but to rush him and hit him with everything they got _ books, pencils, legs and arms.

"Getting under desks and praying for rescue from professionals is not a recipe for success," said Robin Browne, a major in the British Army reserve and an instructor for Response Options, the company providing the training to the Burleson schools.

Allow me to elaborate on my feelings.

In a perfect world, this might just work. This isn't a perfect world. Children are not soldiers. How many kids do you honestly think would start throwing objects and rush a gunmen if he walked into their class? My guess would be 1-4 in a class full of 20, and their actions certainly wouldn't be in unison. You'd have a kid throw an object at a gunman, and the gunman would probably shoot the kid. Perfect world situation, multiple kids throwing objects while other kids rush the gunman, that would probably work. But since were living in the real world, and most of the kids would probably so scared out of their minds they wouldn't be able to move a muscle.. It ain't gonna work. I couldn't see a single female student doing this either. The guys, maybe. So that means you've got around half the class assuming its a 50/50 split with boys and girls. Then you have to consider what kind of weapon the gunman might have. There are better options out there, this should be the last on the list.

I could keep going on, but it's just not worth it.

Incredible. I feel very fortunate that my parents and I never had to worry about school shootings in the '60s when I was in Catholic grade school. I did however have a dreadful fear of our principal, Sister Ita Marie, who could put the fear of Gawd in anyone.

Me too. When I was in school, there was a little racial tension, but nothing to get scared about. The major worry was the usual bullying, but if you could either hit the biggest one really hard...or run pretty fast, things were generally okay.
These days, you can get shot in the blink of an eye.
 
These days the choice has been taken away from us. If the choice is bend over spread my cheeks and let them kill me or fight, i will go down fighting. At least then I wont have to beg my maker for forgiveness for being a wuss. In these instances, there are no cops there to fight for the children, it then becomes the responsibility of the adults on the scene to protect them. It would be a wonderful world if these people agreed to fight by rules and not just willy nilly kill anyone, but that time is over. Its now kill or be killed and it would behoove all of us to realize that is the world now and act accordingly. Especially where children are involved.

Thats used to be....now they just shoot you. Time to make them pay instead of innocents. Its stupid to just bend over and be a victim, but if that is one's choice..have at it.
 
I'm dubious about anything that Government Schools attempt to teach. I have very little confidence in this program. I wish I could find the information that I saw a couple of days ago on how much this (these) program(s) was costing us.
 
is peopel really going to take advice from a british army perosnel? not the best in military tactics. we beat them what 3 times already in wars? first one the revolutionary war where they was the super power and defeated by farmers. thats a real black eye for them

) sorry to say but it wont work and you never know if the perosn with the gun will shoot to begin with. but if you ________ him off. then he will shoot for sure.

just liek while a crew chief in the air force. we was told if we see a gunman rushing twards the bombers. we had to stop him at all costs. I asked do we have guns? he said no. I said ok I will tell you what will happen. gunman runs twards me and I say stop and run twards him. he shoots me dead. then continues twards the bomber and blows it up.

I said heres my take. gunman runs up. I put my hands up and say dont shoot if you let me live I will tell you the easiest way to blow the bomber up. if you let me just walk away. got a bunch of laughs from that. but the instructor wasnt amused. I said my life isnt worth giving for a 40 year old bomber that will still get blowen up after the gunman kills me.

some people are stupid in the advice giving. there is no real right answer for it. only thing is to try and find a good place to hide and lock the door. as most gunmen dont look for hard places to get into. also if a gunman dont run into a class room shooting. then I bet he or she is looking for specific people they want to shoot and should just sit there and pray you dont sit infront or behind the person they are looking for. in the end nothing really you can do but hope your not shot. throwing stuff rushing a person with the gun isnt going to improve your odds of living. this is why people use guns and not knives. if a perosn had a knife it would be over for him before it begins. a gun is more intimidating and reaches out a lot further than a knife.


just wating for the day this happends. a student pulls out his own gun and shoots the perosn dead that ran in with a gun. now what will happen to him? you know its just a matter of time.

The most stupid advice is to advise someone to be a victim knowing they will be killed. That's wonderful knowning our public policy has disarmed anyone able to fight for our kids.

Why do you think these idiots target schools...there is no one there with the equipment to shoot back. Why we dont see police stations taken over like this, all the cops have the equipment to shoot back at the cowards. One would have to be lacking in most basic thinking skills not to see this.

To make this program work effectively, mock gunman drills would have to be performed ..unannounced and unprepared. After about 100 such reallife simulations, then the group may be able to respond automatically without hesitation.

Naturally, just due to the drills, the courts would be choked with law suits because you subjected someone's child to terror.

It will take us having a state very much like Israel for the entire population to embrace such all encompassing "life education".
