I was just wondering if anyone knew the long term effects of using Redline 5W-40? What I mean is that if I start out using this oil, can I expect ANY ill effects from my engine to my seals?

Good oils do not cause problems, especially top tier oils like redline, amsoil, etc.
I would worry more about driving habits damaging the car then worrying about a top tier oil damaging my car. Just use the best oil you're willing to buy, in the correct grade, with the right oil filter and change it at the right OCI and worry not.
Chances are it isn't oil failure that will do your car in, for me it's always been transmissions that break down before my cars engine breaks.

brian - STOP WORRYING! Relax - enjoy your car. Maybe buy some lousy stocks or get a 2nd girlfriend - something to worry about more than Redline in your crankcase.
While changing your own oil/goofing around your car/washing your car,etc, I suggest you get a recording of a Queen song "I'm in love with my car" and listen at full volume. The song always justifies the amount of TLC and money that goes into my vehicles.

yeah titan you're right, if people followed such advice there would be no one to be called "enthusiast".

I think mainly that your wallet will be lighter than other 5w-40 users (boutique oils exempt).
Redlilne is excellent oil. Moreover, it is a group V oil. Group V oil tends to be easier on the seals. Most high mileage oils add group v oil for seal swell.
Do you need a 40 wt. oil??
