I just got done helping my friend change the oil on his 00 Dodge Durango and 88 Chevrolet Camaro. I know he neglects his oil changes worse than anyone i have ever seen and was amazed at the interavals on this change. The Durango oil was in it for a year and three months. He covered 16,000 miles in this time period and the oil was havoline 10w30 Conventional and a Mopar filter. The Camaro oil has been in it for over three years and 15,000 miles. He only changed it because we got a good deal on the new oil. Camaro had Valvoline conventional and a fram filter. Much to my amazement the oil on both cars aside from being black has night came out fine. No clumps, sludge, or metal that i could see. Even shined a flashlight down the filler to look inside best i could and they looked clean. So here's the question. I thought that long a drain on conventional would kill a car but i was wrong. So what the longest conventional (or synthetic, why not) drain you have done or seen and what was the results. Also anyone know round about when sludge would start to form. I know there are so many factors to that question that a answer likely doesn't exist. But never hurt to ask. Thanks for the input and i look forward to the stories and insight
Also both cars now have Valvoline and wix filters. FYI
