Hi and thanks in advance. I have a new to me 2003 Yukon. Its got the 5.3 flex fuel engine. I can sometimes be accelerating from a red light and press on the accelerator and there is a good 2 to 3 seconds before it does anything, and then it will accelerate hard. Usually it will only do this once and then it does not happen again during that trip. This vehicle has the drive by wire on it so I was wondering if its a sensor? I have no clue and it is not at all consistent, so trying to get it to do for a mechanic while I still have about a month of my warranty left on it will be hard. Any tips are appreciated.

Yeah its only under the 2 month or 2K mile warranty. And it is important for me to get this fixed. I don't know if this will get worse and I could pull out in front of somebody and not be able to accelerate. Don't get me wrong. I plan on taking it in this week. But if they cant get it to do it then im sure I will get the standard answer. We can't find anything wrong. It worked fine for us.

I don't have any specific suggestions, but do have some general ones. Be sure to check All Data or some data base for TSB's that may refer to your problem. Yes, I know the dealer's service writer should know all the TSB's on all the cars his dealership sells, but they don't. Make sure you walk away with a service invoice that clearly states the problem, even if the response is no problem found!! My dealership likes to not generate an invoice when there is no problem found. Get on an internet list of 2003 Yukon/ Tahoe owners and read and ask the same 'hesitation before accel.' question and if it is a common problem, you should get a quick reponse on exactly what to do. This last may be your best bet and will save you repeated trips to the dealer wasting your time and only getting you frustrated.

That is a great engine. Have them clean the TB your plate could be sticking. Then look at the ETC system from the pedal all the way to the TB. It could be the chip/sensor in the pedal assembly. Could also be a loose connection in the pedal assembly as well.

I have heard on some radio car talk shows that the 5.3L is having problems with carbon build up. I would check into that at the internet lists for Yukons with the 5.3L engine and see what they recommend. It is a great engine design overall. A decarbon engine treatment is fairly inexpensive and not a big deal. 3M amoung others sell a kit for this. It is easy to pull the intake hose and see if there is any carbon build up on the Throttle body plates to cause sticking in the Throttle body. My 5.7L LT1 Chevy V8 had the problem and you could easily clean it with a shop rag, tooth brush and a 3M Intake cleaner spray can.

Thanks guys for all the responses. I will take a look at all the connections that I can see. The TB has been cleaned and was fairly dirty but not anything extreme. I like the idea of only making right turns for now. That is a very good point. Thanks again.

If the throttle plate is sticking, a cleaning may or may not be enough to free it up (if the seals are carboned up and the cleaner didn't get all that out, you could still have a problem). My money is still on that.

My car used to do that, except I have a cable throttle so the problem would show up as a sticking throttle to the point where I would have to crack through the crust once per trip (very easy to do), then it was normal until the next trip.

Thanks again, the fuel filter was a total pain because its the flex fuel engine, but it was just changed. The standard engines fuel filter is a cake but this one is a total pain. So if I have cleaned the throttle body already how could I clean it more properly?
