Lock car at night

I have concluded we need to be more safety aware and I have started to lock my truck when I go to sleep normally between 10 and 11 PM. Thera is usually one chirp.

We have also started to lock our house unless one of us in in the yard.

I often put stuff in or get stuff out of my truck during the day. Not looking to constantly lock and unlock my truck during the day.

Annoying neighbor has complained to the HOA board about the chirp at night.

For me who might forget things, locking my truck as part of a going-to-bed routine seems like a good way to make sure it's locked overnight.

While I realize there are ten different ways I could handle locking my truck, I do not think a chirp is a big deal at night. There are occasional dogs barking around the neighborhood along with a few honking their horn for unknown reasons.

Would hope the HOA board would politely ignore this complaint. What's next, complaining about a garage door opening/closing after 9pm?

Have you looked into if you can disable the chirp? Park the truck where you can see the lights blink to confirm locking?

A good neighbor who's on your side is another tool in avoiding crime.

There was a time where I never had to worry about locking things down so much. Now, I lock everything and double check it for going to bed. Heck, I even put on a steering wheel lock even though my car is garaged.

Most cars can be reprogrammed to just blink the lights and not chirp if you're worried.

They are stupid. I dont wish anything bad on most folks, but sometimes loving your neighbor involves a little bit of "pain". If their mall crawler was broke into, and stole all their Yeti gear, I am sure they would not mind the chirp.

Maybe a red flag op is in order here?

I guess removing pointless noise is good thing... But seems a bit excessive to expect that kind of silence in a neighborhood? Closing a car door would be similar. I suppose if they are a light sleeper with their window open, a chirp at 11pm would be annoying.
You could change the settings from a chirp to a light flash. We turn all noise off on our cars, as it is annoying when tent camping if people leave the chirp/horn on so we make sure we aren't those folks.

Yes same crazy neighbor. Complains about the neighbors on both sides of them. We both have dogs.

DDA pesticide inspector stopped at their house last month to inquire about illegal use of mothballs outside in an attempt to poison our dogs should they get loose. I am guessing the neighbor on the otherside contacted the DDA Delaware Dept Agriculture). Anyway you look at it mothballs are EPA regulated and illegal to use outside.

I like the idea of an air horn occasionally. My dog is old and often wakes me up in the middle of the night to go out. I will bring air horn with me. Often there is something in the swale that my dog must smell but I cannot see. I will scars it off with air horn.

The line has to be drawn somewhere. It's a slippery slope - today's chirp becomes tomorrow's derelict vehicles, untended waist-deep weeds, overturned appliances and rotting boats in the yard that we're constantly being warned about if we live in non-HOA neighborhoods.
