The dealership that I bought my Silverado from uses Q-S Blended 5w30. That is fine, but I am having trouble finding it in stores. I have been to Wally World, Auto Zone, and Advance Auto and have yet to locate any. They have the QS full syn, and the regular, but not the blend. Has anyone else encountered this?

Q State is in the process of re-packaging all their oils, and retailers are clearing the old stock off the shelves. I suspect it will be fairly soon when the new stuff arrives (not necessarily new oil, but new packaging). You can see the new packaging on the Quaker State website.

I would just blend my own oil (permanently) if I wanted a blend. It is probably a lot cheaper since many have claimed that there is only about 15% synthetic in a synthetic blend oil.

Or, one could go really crazy and skip the biggie fries and biggie drink and go 2 quarts synthetic and 3 quarts conventional oil. OMG!

There you go.....

Here is the description from the QS High RPM syn blend PDS (5/07):

Q® High-RPM Synthetic Blend Motor Oil is specially formulated to help maximize the performance and power of your high output engine. When heat and stress are at their most severe, special heat activated additives provide a low friction, heat resistant lubrication film. This advanced protective layer helps reduce the deficient of friction to help prevent oil shearing and resist thermal breakdown, even in engines that red line at 8,000 RPM. The result is less friction and better protection to help maximize power.
Q® High-RPM Synthetic Blend Motor Oil is formulated with a mixture of synthetic and conventional basestocks to improve high temperature oxidation stability and low temperature flow.

Dino, Hm, and full syn is all I remember...

They had a blend that used to be called QS 4X4. I ran it for a while and it was good oil. That got replaced by Torquepower( I think - may have been another one in there in between? 4X4 Truck and SUV blend? )but it became a full synthetic. Now with the new names they have replaced Torquepower with Enhanced Durability which is again a blend.

If any of the above is innacurate my apologies. You need a score card updated hourly to keep up with that company and their oil names/formulas.

It is possible that their bulk oil 5w30 (and other light weights) qualifiy as a blend just like conocophillips' tropartic/motorcraft/kendall etc. While labelled "conventional" or nameless in quart store bottles, the bulk vendor knows the real deal.

As it gets thicker, may not qualify, so QS doesn't want to confuse consumers in bottled-oil land.

Here are descriptions for the other QS/Q blends:

QUAKER STATE® SYNTHETIC BLEND MOTOR OIL for 4x4s, SUVs, and Trucks is specially formulated for these hard working engines. Engines in 4x4s, SUVs, and trucks are put under stress from pulling or hauling heavy loads. This stress can cause an increase in engine deposits or wear. QUAKER STATE® SYNTHETIC BLEND MOTOR OIL for 4x4s, SUVs, and Trucks is formulated to protect these vehicles in such harsh driving environment. (9/04)

Q® 4X4 & SUV SYNTHETIC BLEND MOTOR OIL is specially formulated to deliver maximum performance and power for hard working engines. Its heat activated molecules kick in under heavy loads and thermal stress, creating a low-friction, heat-resistant lubrication film. This advanced protective layer combats oil oxidation and resists thermal and viscosity breakdown, for better protection and maximum power. (1/07)

Q® Synthetic Blend Motor Oil provides extra protection from a combination of high quality base oils with an additive package designed to give you the performance you expect from Q®. Whether you driving your vehicle in stop and go traffic or pulling heavy loads off-road, you expect you vehicle to work hard. But hard working vehicles like yours generate friction and heat in the engine, which can break down conventional oils and rob you of power. (10/07)

QUAKER STATE® WINTER SYNTHETIC BLEND MOTOR OIL protects modern engines during low ambient temperature conditions where good flow at cold start is essential. Oil thickens at low temperatures and might lead to oil starvation at start-up and eventually to engine failure. QUAKER STATE® WINTER SYNTHETIC BLEND MOTOR OIL uses synthetic components for excellent cold flow performance. (6/05)

What? All oil is blended and some "conventional" oils probably contain additive packages that have small amounts of Group III or higher components. But such oils are not the same as the synthetic blends from CononcoPhillips (Conoco, Phillips 66 ,"76", and Kendall) which have some synthetic base stock.
