Local Autozone now has self checkout

Mine's had it for at least a year. I love the concept for stuff on the floor.

In fact I bought some friction modifier today BUT their SCO can't handle cash and I often prefer to pay with cash. They were slow so I paid a "real" person with cash today.

This made me think of Home Depot's SCO (ahh...another TLA).
Besides reduction in manpower needs (aka payroll), I wondered if having SCOs was 'necessary' to mollify the hands-on type customer who might be characteristically impatient.

They've had it around here for a while now. Its great for when you go in and buy something that doesn't require a behind the counter part, as you no longer have to wait in line for the 1 person that is actually in the store trying to take care of everyone. Scan the item, pay, and leave. SCO can be great when done properly, it isn't for checking out a cart full of groceries, its for a few items only. Problem is that most stores, like Walmart, tried to make it into how to pay for everything and that is not what is it for.

IMO doing a self-checkout I should be getting an employee discount for doing someone's job.
I did not like it at first - but got tired of buying cold items that get placed in three different bags instead of together to stay cold - and then it moved to me bagging indoor/outdoors things separately etc …

I feel fortunate that at this point in my life I am not so busy that I need to grab it and go at an auto parts store . To each his own I guess .

Sorry don't work there and will wait for a line unless super desperate and in a huge hurry will I use the self checkout anywhere. Has to be really bad, Walmart at Christmas time is an example.

I'm looking forward to my local AZs adding self checkout. If I'm just buying a bottle of wax and some towels I don't need to be hassled to buy some dielectric grease while I'm trying to pay. And I don't need to smell the weed wafting from the counter guy's clothing.
