Little tidbit on lemon wedges.

I'd be curious to see a study on the bacteria on the average person's hands. I'd bet we pollute our own food/drinks with our own hands more then anything that is handed/transfered to us.

I agree.

A nurse that we know was explaining to us one day exactly how contaminated we are from mid waste down in fecal this and that, regardless of washing etc.

Our keyboards are filthy, and many of us (well me at least) eat lunch at our desk.

Ever stop and think what your toothbrush is doing all day between scrubs, other than collecting any and all floating pathogens ?

Mine is being sterilized by UV light.

Somehow I knew that. Mori you must have like zero resistance to any pathogens!!

Try to stay reasonably clean. In the auto repair business (rural) that's nearly impossible. Most would have no problem having me at outer limits of their comfort zone on my way to work. On the way home might be a different story. Farm implement and tractor tires come in coated in chicken litter. Believe me, the drier ones are better than the ones where guys have tried to wash them. Many of the cars we pull into the shop are total waste zones with pet fecal, child fecal, stale food wrappers, reproductive byproducts, roaches (either kind take your pick) in the ashtray, and on and on.

From years of observation, I'd be willing to bet filth is at the bottom of mortality tables. I'll take reasonable care, eat most anyplace without a bad reputation, and enjoy life much more than most of the "nervous nellies" who spend so much time worring about what they may have been exposed to.

When I get a checkup the quack always asks me if I'm an astronaut, based on lung volume and general level of fitness and health. I don't tell him about my insomnia, though. I guess the insomnia could be due to good hygiene.

thanks for posting this. I nearly always order water with lemon.

Next time I'll tell the waitress "I'd like a glass of water with a wedge of lemon and hold the fecal matter".

Wait, that didn't sound right...er...umm....

FYI, I don't really have a OCD on cleaniness, believe me. I sleep with cats on top of me and 3" away from my face.

I find this troublesome because it indicates a genuine process problem or training issue with food establishments in general; if they can't keep a piece of fruit clean, I can't image what the meats look like....

I have gotten severe food poisoning from 2 well established food service companies, one was Marriott and have noticed poor procedures in the catered cafeteria where I work (Aramark)

Needless to say, I no longer eat chicken I have not prepared myself.

That means that you presume that your hands are dirtier than the average person's hands. Eww.
