Liquid or Paste

Saw a consumer show that suggests according to their testing that the best results in car waxing come from Paste rather than Liquid waxes. The show suggested wax in paste form with Carnauba is best result, Carnauba in liquid form is less effective apparently. (the wash/spray wax proved least effective) (the highest results come from Simonize Paste with Carnauba)

Does this sound right?

I am using Turtle Wax Platinum Series Ultra Gloss, Liquid Wax, says it has Carnauba content. It seems to do job. I like the easy application, convenient.

Sounds logical to me. If the wax is in a more solid form at a room temp (paste) it seems it would stick to the paint a little better than liquid wax when washed or exposed to the elements.

the wax itself isn't affected by whether it is liquid or paste. Liquid wax is pretty much the same as paste with more solvent added. Once dry, the solvent is gone and all that's left is the wax. Paste has less of this solvent. Paste tends to be applied heavier and is more concentrated when applied, so this probably accounts for the better "durability". Of course, that is assuming the base "wax" in a liquid-vs-paste is the same within a brand. It isn't always, and the amount of solvent also varies.

More solvent, as in a liquid, may actually stick better since it may clean the surface better. But you have a lot less wax left when you are done, so to me it's a toss-up.

Since a wax is merely for cosmetic purposes, use whatever works best for you. The more you apply, the longer it will last would seem to be the most logical approach.

I've been thru this same dilemma. I used to use Mothers' liquid constantly for years. Then tried the paste. It's somewhat more difficult to use because it's a solid and messier because it cracks, flakes, etc. in the can.

Initially, I thought it was easier to buff out because it seems to have a higher melting point and the excess wax is removed easier. It seems to be slightly more durable too...ie. don't need as frequent applications.

However, I'm now back to the liquid due to ease of use. Using less product seems to give a better result and makes it even easier to buff to a final shine.

Consumer Reports came to the conclusion that there is no difference in the effectiveness between paste and liquid. A lot of manufacturers still make paste bacuse some people perceive it to be better. I find liquid to be more convenient to use.
