Anybody heard of LIQUI MOLY before? Just showed up at my local NAPA. Sounds like its decent but I have never heard anything about it. Any comments or users? I'd be interested in hearing about it. Either the 0-40, 0-30, or 5-40 higher end synthetics. And if you could compare it to something out there already...ie comparable to motul, or better than PP, not quite as good as PU. Something just like that.....thanks

It's rather unremarkable compared to most other off-the-shelf synthetics. It's way overhyped by the Audi/VW crowd.

I would not pay more than $6/qt for it.

The only one that's even remotely interesting to me is the Synthoil Energy 0w40.

A lot of guys use it in BMW air-cooled bikes. It's supposed to be some premium stuff that's comparable to Motul. I haven't used it myself.

It's a German brand oil which is generally of excellent quality, but you pay an unjustified premium for it being made in Germany. If for no other reason than novelty and import costs.

Their Longtime 0w30* is a pretty unique product which may be worth seeking out. It has a VI of 186, highest of any API certified 30wt in the US I'm aware of. It also claims great fuel economy while also being ACEA A3. It has a low KV100 for an A3 oil, indicating high quality base stocks. Petro Canada makes some similar products up there in Canuckistan, but they're not available here.

* Note: This is the plain Longtime 0w30 not the Longtime Plus.

Try it, maybe you likey. The engine in YOUR car is the final determinator. Is it a real syn or false like we have in the major label US ILSAC grades?

Some of their oils are group III, others are group IV. It depends.

The only reason I would buy Liqui-Moly oil is if it is the easiest to find oil that meets a proprietary European specification, and the car I was using it in needed it due to warranty.

VW 504 and 507 are the two specifications that come to mind where the oil is not easy for me to find. One type of Liqui-Moly at NAPA, and M1 ESP 5w30 at Pep Boys are the only 2 places I could get that oil.

If your car needs one of the more common European proprietary specifications, I find that M1 0w40 is the easiest to find so I just use that.
