First Linux I've ever installed. Bought a new laptop w Win 7, and replaced the XP on my 7 or so year old Emachines desktop w Celeron 3.2CPU, 4GB RAM. Had issues getting wireless LAN working so plugged in the ethernet cable and off we go. I'm sure I'll get the wireless issues sorted soon enough. Fantastic for a free OS. Suuuuper fast, but it should be for how simple and basic it seems. Perfect fit for a machine of this vintage, I have it hooked up to my DJ mixer and primarily there to play music and read forums when laptop is tied up.

Any if you guys running it?

I installed fedora 8 on my laptop years ago and I somehow was able to get the wireless to work with ndis wrapper. I was taking a serios look at mint but it is a bummer to hear that your wireless sin't working.

FWIW, wireless worked out of the box with Fedora on my ThinkPad. This would be FC13 IIRC.

Had no wireless problems with ubuntu 10.10

Mint is my distro of choice. Runs on a 7 year old laptop with a cheap SSD quite well. Great to use in a VM on a newer computer to isolate web nasties to a disposable web browser appliance.

Have been a Linux user for several years and never had any Wireless issues after installing Debian Linux or Ubuntu which is based on Debian on several computers.

Linux Mint offers distributions based on both Debian and on the Debian based Ubuntu - never any wireless issues.

I run the non Linux Mint based version of Debian 64 bit on my Desktop. On my Laptop am running the 64 bit version Linux Mint based version of Debian, and on my Netbook am running the Linux Mint Debian version with the XFCE desktop.

For a new user Linux Mint distributions are good as they contain most all needed plug-ins and Codecs.
