My wife reminded me that I have tires that are like new that I removed from my Mustang before I sold it in our shed (To much Chemotherapy over the years makes you forget) .... They are Cooper RS3A in size 255/40/19 with less than 5,000 miles on them. Here is the issue I am facing the Lincoln MKZ size is 245/40/19 and the Coopers are 255/40/19 will they fit without rubbing and second will going to a slightly wider size void my powertrain warranty?

Tires are good for 5 years. After that, you are putting your life on the line, and the other motorist lives at risk. Your tires have a date code stamped on the side. When were they made?
I just read an article last week about two people losing their life because their car had old tires on it and they blew on the highway.

Only 10mm wider and 4mm taller. I'd think they would fit but there may be a slight rub at full lock turn or with suspension compression. I took a quick look on a Google search but didn't find anything.
Check out Tirerack. Thefact that they are only slightly wider and have the same height shouldn't. If the tires were designed for your previous mustang they are probably soft performance tires. Not sure how they'd be on the MKZ. I'd call the local Lincoln Dealer and ask.

How old are they?
Can you crank the wheel all the way to the side and see how close it is to rubbing the inner fender/frame rail?
They'll probably fit ok. Plenty of trucks with huge oversized tires on them, even when sold new, I doubt it's a warranty issue.

They should fit. You need to consider the age of the tires before mounting them.

I bought them new two years ago and according to the date code they were made 2.5 years ago
When I researched tire mfg's I they typically stated 6-10 yrs for tire life. And fwiw, a tire can fail within 0-5 yrs from new and claim lives. Regardless of age, when a tire is below usable tread depth, or heavily cracked, get rid of it.

I wonder if you could get a good deal selling them since they're almost new as far as tread, I'd think someone would buy them.
Then buy real fresh tires.
But if you'd wear them out, before they age out, it's a no brainer, I'd use them.

The RS3A's you have will probably work OK, and a performance all-season like that won't last very long anyway, but if you have the choice, get new tires. Even if you do use the Coopers in the shed, you might be looking for tires again next year. If they were on a Mustang, they were probably driven hard.
My choice would be to get a set of Toyo Celsius in the correct size for your MKZ 245/40-19, and put the Coopers on CL for $100

If kept out of the weather, they are fine. It’s sun and extreme temperatures that break down tires. A 10mm increase will fit just fine. You may be surprised to find out that actual tire width varies drastically between tire brands and models for a given size... 10-20mm variance is not uncommon.

I'd bet money on that being entirely fruitless. You would learn just how quickly dealership personnel can dump a phone call.
