Hey everyone,

How long is the "shelf-life" of oil filters? The reason I ask, I just bought a 10-pack of filters for my 2008 xB (only cost $3.70 shipped, per filter this way), and I use maybe three per year. So the last of my filters will be used up 3-4 years from now (assuming I still have the vehicle).

Do oil filters have a "use-by-date" at all? I figure they would not, but I am not sure about the filtering element.

I may plan to sell off half of my order, but was curious about this. Appreciate your insight.

As long as they stay clean and dry I don't see why there would be a short shelf life.

Just make sure the gasket is pliable before installing.

I've used oil filters that were far older than that without problems. I usually wrap the open end with Saran wrap to keep moisture out if it will be awhile until I use the filter.
Avoid storing them in damp locations.

I'd put 'em in zip-lock freezer bags or something to keep the humidity out....might not hurt to hit 'em with some wd-40 or something first too.

I buy bulk as well (fleetfilter).

I spray the exposed metal end and inside with a light dusting of WD-40 for corrosion prevention. Then I box them back up. I've have had filters last easily 5 years. You want to keep them dry.

If your 10 pack will last you about 3+ years, you'll be fine.
