Sorry you don’t like the commentary, but it’s all based on the fact that you chose to share all sorts of details.

Late to the thread.

I find life a bit boring, but I'm also in the messy middle, so I have my excuses. House payments, retirement savings, kids in college. Unwilling to change jobs because it involves risk. Concerns about the future... the list goes on.

Thing is, as you get older, the responsibilities add on, while the heady rush of being young and reckless slowly ebbed away. It's like we literally change as we get older. Or at least some of us do.

I go no words of advice. I just go to work every day that I'm required to, and accept that the month of December will be spent recovering from burnout. Only 20 more years to retirement! some days it doesn't seem worth it...

I think more people need to take a day off once in a while for themselves, call in sick and go do whatever you want for the 10hrs you would normally devote to work. Go for a hike, take a ski or snowboard lesson, shoot some guns, play some video games, whatever. What kind of trouble did you want to get into when you were 12? Go do that. Call a buddy, drink a case of beer, and put firecrackers in fruit? (try to keep all your fingers!)
Don't do it every week, but a couple times a year? Meh.... France still has a functioning country and they all get twice the holidays!

Idk, I wouldn't necessarily call that a late bloomer. Doesn't mean you haven't been in relationships. I don't really see how getting married changes much except come tax time.

I meant late bloomer to have kids, driving a minivan, little league sports, kids parties at Chuck E Cheese, camping with the kids, teaching kids how to ride bicycle, helping them with homework, …. etc…..

Skip the motorcycles. Decent women....the kind you may intend on someday marrying......like well mannered men that aren't self absorbed or trying to be a rebel. Being a good provider and having mental and emotional stability also helps. Add to it a sense of humor. Just my opinion.

I'm squarely in middle age now (45) and am quite sentimental/nostalgic about my youth. As a child of the 80s/90s I do remember "life before digital" and when the digital world/internet was coming about, I was excited about the possibilities of new tech (I inadvertently used the term "high-fi" not too long ago when talking about home theater speakers and a much younger person looked at my puzzled) and a world made better but now when I read an article or online post about a new technology I am almost immediately cautious as almost all new tech seems to come at the cost of privacy or some other negative.

When I get a little discouraged about life and maybe my position in the rat race, I remember my junior high algebra teacher saying "if you want to make a change, don't wait until January 1st or the beginning of the next month, or some other far out date - just do it now".

There are a lot of things that conspire against us old dudes in terms of having fun. More responsibility, more obligations, less free time, middle-aged bodies, etc. I just don't have the opportunity or energy to do as much as I used to. I can't physically pull off a 10 mile hike, hours of waterskiing, then stay up all night howling at the moon, so to speak.

For me at least, there's also a lot lower threshold before boredom sets in. I think for most guys, at a certain age, the default response to everything becomes, "Meh." Been there, done that. One museum, one cultural center is exactly the same as every other one out there. It drives my wife a little nuts.

Some of my Wife's girlfriends became single in their 40s. All these women were attractive, physically fit, and financially sound.

These 40 something women struggled to get a date. A lot of single guys in their 40s had given up on taken care of themselves.

Seemed if a guy in his 40s simply took good care of himself, both physically and financially, he would have more dates than he could dream of.

Well I think 40 is when a guy hits the wall if he just sits at a desk all week long 50hrs a week. No way he'll be in shape. I kind of feel bad for dome of these people who sit behind a computer all day. Then what are you going to do? Hit the gym when you get home??....yeah right lol

I know this thread strayed off a bit. What is your height @The motor guy? Women are programmed to look for guys with good genetic quality. So if you go to a bar with a friend who's equally attractive but 4" taller than you, the woman spotting you guys will be drawn to your friend. Ever hear the country song from Megan Moroney 6 Foot Two?

As far as life being more fun when I was younger, it was in some ways and not so in others. I like many here I assume, lost connection with friends we had in our youth. In your 20's, you're still learning about life and taking course towards a better path.

Taxes are a big point when you started the thread. It is what it is. Be part of your local and state political process or otherwise don't complain. The sad reality is people often ignore their ballot. More people in my county voted for the P election but skipped the tax issues on the ballet which passed. One levy in my county passed with not only a renewal, but increased millage despite property being reassessed the year prior and property tax going up even more last year before the levy.

I've heard the song. I pretty much have all the traits women hate. Introverted, short, skinny. 5'5" is my height which is the same height as most women. Doesn't bother me any, but they sure make a big deal out of it. Went on a date with a girl and it was the first thing she mentioned and even said I lied to her about my height. Almost turned around and took her right back to her house.
