LG=Junk.. Samsung?

I'm about 12 years in on an LG fridge and it's rolling along without issue. Of course, my Wedgewood stove is over 65 years now, so it has a way to go to catch up....
 
I love samsung for their TVs. But i haven't heard/read very good things about their BR players.

I have a Panasonic (BD65), and it's one of the best rated BD players for its price - great pic and sound quality for BR and a VERY good up converter for DVDs, too...Lots of functions and features.

Oppo is great, but not so bang for the buck like Panasonic.

Marantz, Denon and Cambridge Audio (Oppo innards?) are good, but almost high-end territory.
 
If you want something good, and something that will last, you have to buy Panasonic.

I went in to buy a 51" Samsung plasma that was uber on sale and I just couldn't do it knowing I would be cheating on my brand, Panasonic. I am holding out for a good deal on a 50" Panny plasma hopefully around boxing week.

They are the best out there.

Boy how'd I'd love to get a Oppo or Denon. Way out of our league. Anyways just my luck the 3 year old would tear it up.. somehow. Still not set on what we're going to get yet. My parents were looking at another LG on sale but I may just have them give us the money. Frankly all BD players till get up in the $150ish range have terrible reviews. Might as well just get a cheap one and save up the money for another... or just borrow a DVD player for a few months and save for a really good one. Bad time right now.

I have had great luck with Panasonic Video Products. Everything from a 13" Color TV in the late '70's to my Blu-ray-VHS combo player, that I bought last year. Pretty sure I have bought at least 10 products over the years. None have been lemons. Only one had a shorter life than expected. But it did last 7 years. The best product is my current DVD recorder that has recorded hundreds of discs without a hiccup, it is about 6 years young. They are neither the most or least expensive, but they work well without screaming "look at me". I am never scared of buying a Panasonic video product.

We've got a Panasonic dvd player / recorder thats at least 5 years old and still no issues playing dvd's. If it was me looking,I'd grab a Panasonic.
 
I have had good luck with LG optical drives and appliances. The exception being our dishwasher which has a pretty major design flaw.

I think that most of the optical drives today are disposable. The prices are low, quality is low.

My worst luck was with a Mitsubishi 52" DLP that required multiple repairs during the first few years of ownership, including full scale capacitor replacement, colorwheel motor, fans, processing board, input board, etc. All of it was covered under warranty except for the capacitor deal which was too late - so I did it myself figuring that if it never worked again, it would be ok, and it did work. Then, 3.5 years ago it quit working so I gave up on it and moved it in the 'game room' for storage, and replaced it with a Panasonic plasma. After moving it into the game room I plugged it in and it worked. It gets used daily in there and has not hiccupped once since then. I paid almost $4,000 for that thing and it still has a great picture. The longer it lasts, the better. it's only 8 years old now, but it seems to have exceeded it's life expectancy.

It does have a built in DVR and CableCard which is nice.

Can't say I've ever had a Panasonic. I'll put that on my list to check. Magnavox is another I've had and never had problems.

My experiences as well.
 
I had the same problem with a Phillips/Magnavox LCD TV we bought 3 years ago. Looking it up online showed it to have many problems...as well as a capacitor that goes bad.

So before I bought the Sony 42" Bravia I have now, I researched it online and found out it was mostly without problems, other than the USB port not recognizing some drives and other software problems with the USB port.

Anyway, the television is made in Mexico which I think is better than one made in China. Plus I bought it off the floor at a local Sears and even got a 30% discount.

Sony...no baloney. Sony for me from now on.

You ever own any of their stuff? It lasts FOREVER. I have a McIntosh sub tower and my cousin has a few of their amps and speakers. Old stuff that still works like new.
