Lets Talk Retirement Savings

We save some but with a fairly large student loan debt, saving is not easy. I just wish I knew what I know now when I was 18. I would have become a doctor - have the same amount of debt as one but much less earning potential.

Overall we manage about 10-15% of gross income/year. My wife works for a non-profit turning profit hospital soon. She gets a 5% match. Not sure how the profit company (Cerebus eg Chrysler) who bought her Hospital system up will do.

We are 37 and have about $200k in retirement. Honestly have no idea what that translates to at retirement for us.

My experience with working for private equity owned companies has been steady efficiency improvements and erosion of benefits over time. The efficiency improvements were labor based - basically, layoffs every two weeks. The reason behind it to show a healthy balance sheet and income statement and then flip it and let the next owner figure out how to make the company survive in the long run.

I am not saying that Cerberus will do that but would be very surprised if they didn't.
