Lenovo T520

Well I sold my T400 a couple days ago.

I bought a hp probook 4430s, but the screen viewing angle was moderately horrid(couldnt tell in store)
and the deal killer anytime you have headphones plugged in.. and touch the touchpad the headphones pick up electrical noises and start squeaking.

Overall its a great laptop much better than some of the other hp and consumer grade stuff.

I'm picky so its going back. I just ordered a lenovo t520 with the FHD screen and some other goodies. I'll probably hate myself in 3 weeks when ivy bridge comes out but those wont be on sale either.

"list" price was 2300$ I was at 9xx something before taxes. Free shipping. The FHD screen is a 250$ option but its extremely amazing. My friends work got them all w520's so I got a preview of it before I purchased my t520 (same screen)

I would have went with the t420 with the 1600x900 but the FHD screen is amazing you just have to see it to believe it.

Good choice. I support any laptop as long as its'a T series.

I was looking at a T420 myself, but my old Lenvo from 2006 still works perfectly so I just can't justify it. I've kept it in great shape too so aside from key shine, it looks like new too. Great machines they are.

T520 or T420 is what I want my next laptop to be.
I am glad you mentioned the FHD is worth it...I was thinking about it, trying to decide.

did you get i5 or i7?

I have the T520 with FHD SSD i7. Windows 7 and Microsoft apps still crash. It just doesn't take as long to kill them and restart.

I've always had HD screens on laptops. Just can't work without them.

Hmm...
my wife has the ThinkPad Edge E520 with i5 and win 7 home premium.
Very stable laptop - pretty happy with it.

The T4 series has been the Thinkpad commercial workhorse for many years. Many companies issue these for employees as their everyday office system. Very tested, rugged and dependable. I've used them for years and you cannot go wrong with one. But they are not smallish or particularly mobile. They are best for folks shuttling them between home and office, where they will sit on a table (and usually plugged in). They are not for traveling and really don't sit well on one's lap.

If mobility is needed, I would not overlook the X series. It is only slightly less powerful than a top spec T series, but is a featherweight and much easier to move about. I could not see myself lugging a big T around, whereas an X slips into an underarm portfolio with ease and really can sit on my lap (or even one hand if need be).

I value mobility in portables, so have shifted to the X in recent years.

I would have been looking at the X series also...I like them a lot, BUT i recently got a pretty good acer netbook (which has the same processor as the Lenovo Netbook), and feel like my laptop should be more of a 'home' laptop - large(r) screen and more powerful, etc....

Let me guess, you had a Thinkpad T60?

I still use a Thinkpad T60 1952AP2 model i got for 300 bucks off newegg with a docking station. Upgraded to a 9 cell battery from the 6 cell that was 1/2 dead for 30 bucks for a brand new OEM one off ebay (0 cycles when i bought it)

Mine is a 15" 1024x768 screen with a GMA950 and 3gb of ram (1gb factory, but i upgraded that) 250GB HDD (60gb factory) I plan on getting the higher resolution screen to allow me more space for when i get college documents up there this summer (easier to use word 2007 with a higher than 1024x768 screen)
