Leather can be really cold when you first get into a car and require seat heater, which take time to warm up. And they're hot in the Summer. I think leather makes more sense in a controlled temperature enviroment like a home than in a car. But leather does feel good when the temperatures right.

Don't think home-wise leather is any better. Lay down on a leather couch for a while and you'll be sweating. If your shirtless you'll stick to it. While some may be for it we'll pass.
Leather is my first choice but if you get cloth just go get a can of scotchguard for each seat in the car and soak them when new and clean. Then for cleaning use "Tuff Stuff" by armour all to remove any stains and when completely dry re-scotchguard.
My daugher spilled 1/2 of a container of red lip gloss lipstick on the tan cloth seats in the Rav4. They had been scotchguarded and the tuff stuff took it all out with 2 applications.

I have leather in the Trans Am, Equinox and Buick the Truck has cloth. I have no heaters in any of them. I will take leather anyday due to ease of maintenance.

I would agree with Eric that leather for home furnishings is worse than cloth.

I have always preferred cloth and was apprehensive about getting a car with leather, but I figured if it was sticky, hot, slippery, etc., I could get sheepskins. But because it's perforated, it hasn't been a problem (although I would still prefer cloth). But if I lived somewhere cold, I would probably get sheepskins (even though these are heated).
Because people are stupid and will pay for it. Leather seats belong in a truck like a home liposuction kits should come with a Dyson vaccum cleaner!

Give me good quality CLOTH seats ANYTIME over leather or pleather or vinyl or.....
Bottom line is decent cloth is
cheaper
usually more durable than any leather or combination of leather/vinyl
more comfortable (not too hot to burn or too cold to chill the [censored] out of you
breathable leather or vinyl causes you to usually sweat bullets before the a/c gets going .
