I also don't like the way leather seats show wear rather quickly; I understand that some people say that gives it "character" but when the driver's seat shows wear and the passenger's seat doesn't, I think that's a problem. Give me cloth any day.
A lot of this depends on the quality of the material rather than if it is leather or cloth. Some leather seats do crack or get a really shiny appearance early on, which I don't like. I have seen 10+ year old cars with leather that looked almost new though.
Some cloth seats tend to crease and wear on the seat bolsters, or they shed. I have seen it on cars that were at little as two or three years old.
Quality leather and quality cloth will hold up. Cheap stuff doesn't.
