Looking at F150's to replace my current Ranger. I had leather seats in my 00 F150 Lariat and have a leather couch now. Those were the first and the last! I understand their easier to clean... but how can people stand them! Unless they have heat and cold settings might be okay. Most of the F150's I see are leather.. almost looks like I may have to get one and get it recovered.

I don't mind leather. It doesn't get as hot or cold as vinyl, and quality leather feels nice.
The saddle leather in KR F-150s has a strong smell that took some time for me to get used to, but the standard leather is fine.
Ford has been using woven cloth for their truck seats for the last few years. Personally, I don't like it because it shows stains easily and dirt seems to cling to it. The material they used on the cloth seats in 2003 and older F-150s was a lot better.

Personally I'm not a big fan of leather either. Fabric upholstery seems to grip you better and prevent you from sliding all over. I also find it more cozy.
Obviously you guys never had any fun in the back seat.
To me it depends. Sometimes manufacturers put really cheap cloth in their cars. I guess they want you to hate it and upgrade to the leather model. Then again sometimes they put really cheap leather in the car so there's no point.
The last cloth vehicle I had was a 2008 Altima. It had a really nice black micro fiber faux suede cloth. Very soft and nice. The cloth started to fray on my driver's seat after less than 1 year. I sold that car for other reasons or else I would have taken it to the dealer to complain.
IMO, leather is easier to keep clean with kids. You see the spills pretty quickly and they clean up really nice/easy.

What ever happened to Naugahyde(tm)? Did all the wild and captive Naugas die off in the late 70's? I Like perforated vinyl - but dont see that much other than MB tex and the Jeep Patriot base models. Maybe now our cars are not garaged, I wouldnt like vinyl anymore up North.

I like leather. It is not a neccessity but in the Explorer it is a nice feel and comfortable and clean. My wife has astma and allergies. Another reason to not have cloth seats they attract and hold dust and allergens. My jeep has vinyl seats and the carpet can easily be pulled out and hosed down. My Work Truck has cloth seats.. they stain and hold dust. In New Mexico there is alot of dust.
I love leather. Heated leather seats are AWESOME!

ive only had leather interior, wouldn't have it any other way. the only way i would have a non leather interior is if i was buying a track car, and that would get the interior gutted and replaced with racing buckets in suede.
I've always preferred cloth. In my experience, the cloth seats have remained looking new longer and are more pleasant year round. I don't know how people can stand leather when its hot! I also don't like the way leather seats show wear rather quickly; I understand that some people say that gives it "character" but when the driver's seat shows wear and the passenger's seat doesn't, I think that's a problem. Give me cloth any day.

A lot of this depends on the quality of the material rather than if it is leather or cloth. Some leather seats do crack or get a really shiny appearance early on, which I don't like. I have seen 10+ year old cars with leather that looked almost new though.

After spending $1000 on material to recover the driver's seat on my car, I'm soured on the use of leather in automotive seating.

You're correct on the dust the cloth seats can hold quite a bit. We have a carpet cleaner with attachments so we can clean ours. It would amaze you what came out of our seats.. it was like dirty water. We clean the Escape twice a year and used to do the Ranger once a year.
