Hi everyone,

My Mazda has black leather seats. It's a 2004, and unfortunately does not have tinted windows. I've noticed that the leather has started to fade a little.

I'm getting my windows tinted to offer some additional protection to my interior, but I think some damage has been done.

Does anyone have any ideas / recommendations to restore / renew my leather?

Is there a dye that will bring back the true black without ruining my clothes?

Suggestions please?

Thanks!

Jason

Leatherique sells dyes as well as cleaners/conditioners. I've only used their cleaners/conditioners. While they're very good, they're also very expensive. I think Lexol might be a better choice from a price to performance perspective.

Thanks for the feedback!

Lexol does not see to have a dye system to restore the rich black that I once had with my leather seats.

I have contacted [email protected] - the Canadian distributor for Leatherique - and it looks like they have a solution for me without having to pay shipping and duty to Canada.

Cheers!

I use lexol fairly religiously on my '03 Mitsu leather. (not the highest quality leather, but still). I put it on 3-4 times a year. However, I am starting to get some hard spots. This is a car that is parked inside every night and most days.

I am dissappointed in the performance of Lexol.

I have been chatting back and forth with the Canadian Leatherique guy and he seems very helpful. He even suggested we can meet up in April so he can recommend the right treatment for my leather seats.

Thanks everyone!

The recommendation I read from an industry guy is to apply leather conditioning product twice a year, no more. Just use a damp (not wet) cloth to wipe down the leather twice a week when cleaning. Too much conditioning will be more harmful than good (I think I got this from the Griot's Garage catalogue).

blackfire has a very nice product that has some of the best technical anti-UV products in it, and so can protect even exposed leather quite well...

It is Blackfire Anti-UV Leather Conditioner.

SInce we do not post liks to sales pages of non-sponsors, Ill just tell you to check out www.properautocare.com and find it in there.

Another vote for Leatherique.

Only expensive in comparison to other conditioners. Dirt cheap compared to new leather...

True, but I'm talking about it from a price/performance perspective. If my memory serves, I paid about $14 for the Lexol cleaner and conditioner, and about 5x that for the Leatherique. Is the Leatherique 5x better than the Lexol? IMO Leatherique is better, but not 5x better.

Another thing to remember is Leatherique is more of a leather restoration product, while products like Lexol are good for regular maintenance. So it really depends on what you need a product to do for you.

And Leatherique is not a miracle product. It won't turn vinyl-like spray-dyed clearcoated leather (like you find in most cars) into that soft buttery expensive-feeling leather.
