All done. Thanks for the help guys.

Went ahead and paid $774 + tax. When it came to the screen where I entered the credit card #, I was given the option of saving 4% if I opened the Dell Preferred Account. I would've saved an additional $31, but I decided against it as my dad didn't want another credit card. (he was paying)

When I saw the title "Struck Gold" I thought your teeth were all done.

Made a phone call after I purchased to inquire about order status. Just for asking, I received a free upgrade to next business day shipping. ($70 value)

Then I read in a review that I was supposed to receive a remote control. Many people on the laptop forum, including myself, did not have one listed on their invoice. About ten calls later, received the remote control for free, delivered using next business day shipping. Value: $50

Apparently it comes in handy if you use it as a DVD player.

Ah, a night at the movies. The family all gathered around the Dell laptop to marvel at that 13 inch bigscreen from across the room, serenaded by all those big surround laptop speakers. Followed by a free fireworks show as the battery pack explodes. Good clean family fun in 2007.

Some people hook up their laptop to their living room TV and audio system.

Big Surprise....Dell used to be my choice a few years ago, but their quality and support really went down the toilet! I'll take an HP or Compaq, thank you very much. Also, I wouldn't want Vista either... its rediculous how much RAM and processor speed you have to have. I'll stick with XP or W2K for that matter! Better yet, Linux!

Your comment on the 'free fireworks show' made me chuckle just a bit!

HP has eaten Dell's lunch lately on market share.

While I have never cared much for their products (not that HP's are all that much more attractive to me), the one strong feature Dell did have going for it was decent consumer level customer support. That had apparently suffered under the last CEO (among other things).

Perhaps with Mike Dell back running things, they can turn things around. But there is more to buying a computer than offering the most features at the price point.

Just my opinion, but with all the toys and gadgets and bells and whistles they stuff into their notebooks, you need a suitcase to wheel one around, they're so darn fat and heavy. It's like carrying a stinking amusement park around. And never drop one.
