Nice looking piece of machinery.

I couldn't even afford a lug nut for that

You know, I ( as well as many others ) would probably be happy to come over and change your oil using whatever oil you spec for this car.

The catch is that we have to test drive the car to ensure we did quality work

Heck I would do it just to do the change (and be that up close and personal with a machine like that). IIRC he has a lift in his garage.

No one can accuse AeHaas of not putting his money where his mouth is to prove a point.

I believe the MC oil blend will show even less wear than the Red Line oil and may show a lower operating oil temperature.

How long have you ran Redline? RL needs to be run a few times before wear metals drop.

We haven't even seen a UOA of the Amsoil 0w-20 and it's already the greatest oil.

I wish the guy on here would post some UOA's of his C5 running Redline 5w-20. He also said he drives it very fast.

Why Motorcraft? If I were going with a conventional 5w20 I'd choose one with a high moly ad pack similar to the Redline you're already using. Something like Havoline 5w20.

What did Terry say about the original UOA? You want something with good shear stability and RL has that. If you are concerned about the wear metals in your last UOA, I would call Dave and ask to speak with Roy Howell of Redline. He will give you good advice.

Forget 5w20, I dont see a point of Murcielago in the first place. I'd rather buy a Bentley or heck even a Lexus LS460H and have a chaffeur drive me around... Driving lamborghini around town doesnt sound much fun..

Maybe you live where traffic makes driving a chore, but some of us actually like driving. Many of us even prefer to go as far as shifting gears manually!

Try the MC 5W-20 if you're in an experimental mood, AEHaas. I wouldn't use it for hard driving in a Lambo (yet), but it sounds like it will handle your application. I think a short-term UOA would be worth the money in this situation!

What will be your OCI? If it's going to be at less than 15-20k miles why not go ahead with the AMSOil as it will avoid any thickening issues you may be concerned with?

Also, if you're looking at low temp viscosity why not go with the AMSOil 0W-20? The RL product specs out at 9.1 and 55 cSt at 100C and 40C respectively, while the AMSOil 0W-20 is 9 and 49.1, and 113 at 21C. Even thinner is the Schaeffer 5W-20 which 7.5-8.5 and 43-45. Even Mobil 1 0W-20 is rated for 8.4 and 43, which is quite thin at lower temps like you're looking for. Is the RL product rated at that much lower of a cSt at 21C?

Also, thanks for the HUGE Motor Oil Basics posting on the FerrariChat site. I read the entire article, and have been spending a lot of time researching a good oil to use in my car. I rarely drive more than 20 miles, so I need an oil that has great low temp viscosity.

I guess its a personal choice. If I could, I'd buy an Aston Martin rather than a juvenile lambo... but thats probably why I cant afford one.

I would say the MC 5w20 would be a good choice, Dr. Haas. I have considered it a very good oil and really feel it ran better than any other oil in my car but the forums here influenced me to go with a 5w40, 10w40 or 15w40 because the Volvos list it for the heat range. I still may try the MC 5w20 again myself but still weighing my options.

Another oil to consider would be the 0w20 oil that is sold at Honda dealers for their hybrids. IIRC it's got a 40c viscosity of around 38cst, so it might be just what the doctor ordered! (pun intended!)

Or if you're feeling adventurous, the Eneos 0w20 has a 40c viscosity of 41.5.

HI Dr.Haas,

With the quality of oils produced today, for the newest specs., I would have no real reservation in using Motorcraft 5W20 Synthetic Blend, in anything. The way the Murci is driven,

it is an ideal oil for the situation. I think that the Motorcraft oil is one of the best oils made today that money can buy.

In all probability, the Ford Crown Vic. Police Interceptor, chasing Mrs. Haas, at over 90mph, has Motorcraft 5W20 Syn Blend, in it's V8 engine also!

Actually, you can't afford one because you don't have enough money. HAHAHAHAHAHA

#@$%! no, you bought a car the cost of my house and you want to use motorcraft? I don't care if i get flamed, i know i'm going to get the bull #@$%! 'it's a quality oil' comment, but you have got to be out of your danm head.

For the motor I have seen the inside of that we maintain at my dealership the internals are spotless with Motorcraft. I got one(3.0L 24V) apart right now (front cover/oil pan gasket leak) and nothing to clean not even the slight carmel colored glaze. My fiances' car has 130K and when we did the timing belt same thing. So it seems the Motorcraft is a fine oil.

I will save your life by not showing my wife what you have written.

It is 3 years old and she loves it. She drives it at least twice a week.

Mrs. Dr. the goddess of Lambo

These doctors must be making too much money! Time for medicare to start reducing reimbursements by 50%.
This would put their wives back in VW bugs where they belong!

I don't care what your wife does to me just don't show my wife those pictures.

I'm sure glad my wife doesn't see this form because she has been driving me crazy to buy her a fancy new car and I insist she keep her 2001 Catera for 100,000 miles and she has 24,000 more to go.
She has been giving me the line "all my girl friends have new Lexus and Mercedes", thank goodness she hasn't thought of a Lamborghini.
