So I'm a few months away from oil changes and think I'll spring for some used oil analysis.

What labs do you recommend?

Also, what labs do you recommend for ATF analysis?

Tons of us use Blackstone. Very fast turnaround. I've had them analyze engine oils, diff oils, trans fluids, and even dual-clutch fluids.

Blackstone is a auto enthusiasts oil lab. OAI/Polaris is more for industrial and commercial. Blackstone also provides free useless comments.

Both are fine for a used oil analysis of motor oil or ATF. For motor oil you also want TBN. For ATF you want TAN.

OAI/Polaris also provides oxidation and nitration. Oxidation tells you how the base oil is doing while TBN tells you how the additives are doing.

If you want TBN and you should, then Polaris is cheaper.

The best deal is a 10 pack of tests from Polaris and split it with a few BIOTG or others. $171 and shipping.

The one I use in Minnesota for my 2009 Duramax diesel is Ziegler Cat or any Cat dealer about $16.00 prepaid includes

1 Current sample information
2 Wear metals analysis
3 Infrared analysis
4 Physical tests
5 Trending sample information: wear metals, infrared, physical test
