Kurtz Kustomz Motorsports (KKM)

I recently purchased a KKM cone air filter for my 1998 Explorer 4.0 SOHC, does anybody have any experience with this type/brand of filter? Will I see and HP gains? Better MPG? Shortened engine life? Anyone? Opinions?

The filter that comes with a KKM kit is a cotton gauze air filter much like a K&N. All the KKM kit does is remove the airbox resulting in less intake restrictions. You may notice a slight increase in power and MPG, but because the intake is now drawing in hotter air, you might notice the engine pinging more frequently. The slight pinging is ok, but remove the KKM kit if the pinging gets real bad.

The filter that came with that kit is made by S & B, which are the best cotton gauze filters you can buy; 1000 times better than K & N. If you look through the SB filter compared to a KN filter, you'll see the dramatic difference in the amount and quality of qauze used.

I also have this kit installed on my explorer.
and would love to be able to use an amsoil filter on it {not sure if amsoil even makes one that would fit onto the kkm filter housing though ?}

Amsoil doesn't make a large enough filter...
so I'm probably going to get one of the true-flow
foam filters !

I was also told {by kurtz kustomz}that both s&b and k&m buy the filter media {gauze}from the same mill ?,that their practically the same filter design.

But SB uses about 50 % more gauze! It's plainly obvious when you look through both of them. They are the same design, but the SB is built like a brick **** house.
