How would it be to add a cup of kerosene to the crankcase for five minutes or so before each oil change? I flushed my Mazda MPV with a pint of kerosene added to the oil and ran it for four minutes, and it seemed to improve the idle a few months ago. I don't want to over-do it, though, but since it seemed to work I'm wondering about a cup, rather than a pint, added before each oil change.

On another thread I asked somewhat of a similar question. I would feel ok with kerosene into oil sump only, not ran thru engine. My own vehicle, I can pour thru oil filler direct into oil pan. I think kerosene alone, no oil in pan, after oil change is safe as long as it does not go circulating thru engine. I leave it, along with other solvents, to help clean off residue at bottom of pan as well as cleaning off oil screen/pickup. You need 1-2 qts. to get enough to cover oil pickup. Leave it soak as long as seems needed, even overnight is ok.

If you use a decent oil with correct intervals, there should be no need. In a overrun or neglected engine, you would be more well served by auto-rx.

I wouldn't that's a shock way of cleaning the engine and it can cause damage. I would use Auto-RX and clean it slowly. Plus you have the added softening of the Ester-Oils in it.

I thought that it might be proactive: an easy and cheap way to keep things clean.

Isn't Gunk Engine Flush essentially kero? As for Neutra, I've run it for a whole oil change before. Didn't hurt but didn't help much.

True, can't say it helped much, but seems a lot better than keosene in the oil.

MY GRAMPS USE TO DRAIN 2 QUARTS OIL ADD 2 QUARTS KERO RUN 5 MIN AND DRAIN HE HAD HIS OWN GARAGE AND NO COMPLAINTS I,VE DONE IT ON OLD ENGINES BEFORE TEARING DOWN PRETTY CLEAN INSIDE BUT ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT CHUNKS BREAKING LOOSE AND PLUGGING IT UP
BUT ANY FLUSH WILL DO THAT

Speer- easy on the caps, it's considered shouting/yelling/screaming if you post a message with all capital letters. Just a hint

and welcome to BITOG!

My ears don't mind the all caps, and I think my eyes appreciate them, rather easy to read. Maybe cap button stuck on? Op was question on~8oz. of kero, the cap post uses 8x that, so seems ok with him, and then some. At least be willing to pull rocker/valve cover off and inspect, I agree that ideal to drop oil pan also but due to exhaust and or suspension/frame issues not always easily possible.
