Patman,

I have the ASX's as a winter setup on my BMW with the staggered setup of 225/45/17 front and 255/40/r17 rear. Some of the folks say they are a bit harsher but I can definitely say they are much softer than the RE050A RFT's that came with the car. Last Winter a little over 2 inches they did fine on unplowed roads. The only issue I have is with water refreezing over night and the tires do not do well in that regards. Other than that for the price and what you get I would definitely consider them. I just purchased two sets from discount tire when they had the $100 promo for my Dad's car. One point to make is depending on your driving pattern even though they have a treadwear rating of 420 don't expect to get over 30,000 if driven aggressively. Hopefully this will make your decision a little easier.

Too much of a hassle. The tire shop I buy from is only a few minutes out of my way on my way to work, and they can get almost any tire I want within 2 hours. Very convenient.

I have them on my wife's '01 musyang and they got caught in a snow last year and did as expected. I would give them a B+. But on dry / wet roads they are awesome! I am a driving instructor for the Audi Club and give them a workout all them time. They are a great tire for your car. the handling and all season capability make them a winner. Read the tire rack reviews.

I'm very happy with mine on my WRX. Compared to the HP tires I've run, the grip is still good but the ride quality is much, much better. Wear is pretty good as well. And for the money, tough to beat I'd think.

I have a set of ASX size 205/50/16 for summer tires on my 97 ford escort. The only time my 80 wheel hp can spin them is in the rain, and only when turning at full throttle from a stop. The ride can be punishing over rough pavement because of my Ford Racing struts.
I can't really say much else about the ASX, other than that the one of the guys who tests tires at the Tire Rack said Kumho makes great tire for a low price. He has Kumhos on his car so I don't think he's just saying stuff. If they didn't say they were made in Korea, I'd never guessed they were Korean made.

I ended up getting a pair of Kumho ASX tires installed this week. I just replaced my front tires last fall, so this year it was the rear tire's turn. So far they feel the same to me as my Pirellis but I also haven't been pushing it too hard into the corners either. It's too cold out to try a full throttle launch from a dead stop to see how they grip in that department.

The one thing I don't like is that the sidewall is a bit more square so it almost looks like I have smaller tires on there now. The Pirelli's sidewall bulged out a bit more, making them look bigger than the Kumhos. But the price on the Kumhos was too good to pass up.

I did notice that the price on the Pirellis came down, just in the past week too! The Pirellis were $310 per tire and now are $280. The Kumhos were $229 per tire though, so still a lot less.

I ran mine all day in light snow/cold/wet/slush. Pretty good in that department and my shimmy is no longer present.

We're supposed to get an inch or two of snow overnight, so tomorrow morning will be my first chance to see how the ASX's can handle light snow.

My conditions were actually pretty icy. Frosty wet ice with a dust of snow...the worst. It was actually hard to describe, except very slick. Picture 1/2" of quick hard snow over a thin wet sheet of freezing rain.

We get those kinds of conditions often here, so I'm glad to hear they'll do ok.

The roads are dry here right now, so the forecast for snow was wrong. So I'll have to wait for another day to test mine out.
