This filter was the Factory Filter that came on my Kubota L4701. Has a 400 hr replacement interval (no time given change in manual) so I let it go for 10 years.. Seems like it held up just fine. The bottom plate came loose from the glue when I pulled on it, but don't think that affected the function of the filter. There was a good bit of metal shavings on the magnet, nothing other than some glitter in the bottom of the filter. Replaced with a new Kubota filter (came with new magnet) and 11 gallons of Super UDT2 fluid.

Nice cut and post. Thank You

You got your moneys worth out of that one.. wow 10 years. Looks pretty good.
Fluid was in there for 10yrs as well other than a gallon or so I had to top off when I replaced the HST filter. The HST and other hydraulics share the same fluid. Supposed to change it every 400hrs, so at my current usage of 50hrs a year or so I should be doing it again in 8 years or so... A $500+ oil change (just materials) so I'm not going to do it any more often than necessary..

Nice write up, thanks for the post.

I'm not sure why Kubota has a different filter changeout schedule for the HST filter and hydraulic filter on a common sump, but they do. I supposed regular changes of the HST filter would pro-long the hydraulic filter change too. Did you happen to cut one of those open? curious how much junk was in that.

I've changed my hydraulic filter out every 100 hrs, based on the junk I found on the magnet. The third time it looked clean, so I'm going longer on this one. Much worse than yours, but average for what I've seen on Tractorbynet.

My understanding is that this filter is the "rock catcher" and the HST filter catching the fine stuff.. Not sure if that is true or not. I bought the tractor with 125hrs on it (It'd never been serviced to that point) and replaced it at this time. That's the filter I cut open here:

I couldn't pick anything out in it other than the fluid in it was extra grey.. No large metal. I assume that was caught by this filter.
