Kona EV long Uber ride

I’d recommend a Prius for Uber instead. I’ve been seeing quite a few Model 3s and even a Model S in the Bay Area serving as Ubers - the Hertz deal isn’t hurting either.

I had a Lyft driver pick me up in a Niro EV. He had he hated the car but it was all Lyft had in Express Drive. I asked him what car do you really want - he said he wished he still had his Prius that was repo’d. I’ve seen Bolts and Leafs as Ubers too.

Probably the constant partial charge/discharge operation coupled with the high number of trips/miles driven is, at least for the battery, a good fit.

although, fast charging could take its toll.
The narrower the voltage swings the less stress on the battery from both intercalating and oxidation (and heat).

Did you happen to notice how fast on the freeway he was driving? Opposite of ICE cars EV's do better in city and stop and go than they do freeway cruising. My E-Golf has a sweet spot between 60-65 MPH where my average consumption will usually be better than my city driving, once past 70 MPH it drops straight off a cliff.

Yes, the speed varied somewhat, as most of the time we were in light traffic, until the jam. He did try to keep it around the speed limit of 65, with traffic related excursions above and below. NY has some mile long hills on this drive. So much so, they have an extra lane for vehicles that can't climb fast. This burned up a lot of power. Unfortunately, the ride down the other side does not 'give back' as it's not steep enough and it still takes significant power to drive the speed limit down the hill.
