"told you so".
That was my first thought and the reason I came in the thread, but that Volvo sure took a beating before being wrecked, defiantly a good first car for a teenager.
Very true! BUT the petrol versions guzzel gas, also the modern Volvo series are nothing special. The real recent era Volvo that is going up not down in value in the EU (Only the petrol version was sold in the US) is the V40 1.9TD post 2002, because it has all the air bags, AC, ABS etc and is very economic. The V40 also had the lowest fatal accident rate per crash per occupant statistics when it was in production until 2004, it is powerful enough for the autobahn and has one tough main block. I had real problems trying to find one because they are a keeper and my parnet has already done 2.5K Euros in damage to an Opel van she reversed into with only a scratch on the real bumper, she would have written the Opel off but the impact missed our tow bar.
On your side of the pond, they are considered expensive, big luxury cars, and they are relative guzzlers...but not here...where they are considered to be smaller cars, upscale but not high end, and reasonable on gas.
The 850 body in the video is one of the best versions - my '94 wagon (estate) was the identical color and body style of the car in the video...and I was in a collision with a Cadillac behind and a Chevy in front...I was fine, the Volvo sustained minor damage, but the insurance company didn't want to fix it, citing the cost. It had 186,000 miles on it, looked new and was running perfectly.
They still make a quality vehicle, with structural integrity second to none.
