The OEM filters are extremely well built, cost less than $6, and I have both a Hyundai and Kia dealer within blocks of my work so I figure I'd be foolish to use anything else.

I use Fram Ultra on both my Hyundia Sonatas with no problems at all.
Just use a good filter and stay away from cheap [censored].

Hyundai is having problems with engines failing and steering linkage . My daughter's turbo Sonata has had both problems. The engine replacement took 3 months of her driving a rental car after 5 visits getting the dealer to admit a known problem. The steering problem happened less than a thousand miles out of warranty and her claim was at first denied by the dealer. After she complained to the factory that it was a safety problem and she was in the process of contacting a lawyer the fix was quickly approved. The factory rep said the dealer had the parts in stock but the fix still took 2 weeks while the car sat in their lot.
When she got her car back both times there were greasy hand prints on the outside of the car and stains on the leather inside and stains on the carpeting in the driver's side foot well. After the engine replacement which took 3 months she had to go directly to the car wash down the street a few miles before driving home. The car was parked in a dirt lot behind the dealer. The windows were covered with dust and driving into a setting sun was difficult. The windshield was so dirty that the windshield wipers and washer only made it worse. Completing the engine change took several trips back to the dealer to clear check engine light codes and fix an exhaust leak and a coolant leak. Each time she had to leave the car for 3 to 5 days.
I think it's safe to say that I will never see another Hyundai or Kia in their driveway at home ever again. She and her husband are right now looking for a replacement car. They have lost their confidence in driving this car and want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

I had always used OEM filters. Recently tried a Purolator, oil light started flickering at idle. Replaced with OEM, problem went away! Going back to only genuine Hyundai filters.
I'll stay with the OEM filters as they are quality and still reasonable priced. Dealer is close bu too.
Amazon also sells them (and others). Just watch out for the fakes out there.

No, the current TSB is quite ambiguous and doesn't really say anything.

100% dealer serviced will all receipts.
If you find you're in a Hyundai or a Kia with stiff steering don't drive it. Park it and walk away. It's a known problem and being able to steer is very useful when driving.

I never heard of these problems with Hyundai engines and for many years the only thing we did were engines. Im not saying it is not happening maybe we did not see a lot of Hyundais because of their long 10 year warranty and the dealers did all the work under warranty....What year is the vehicle? In the meantime you should be glad they fixed it after the warranty was already over. Of course the dealer should have cleaned everything up we tried to never returned a vehicle dirty.
The Hyundai recall was 2011 and 2012 Sonatas 2.0 and 2.4 with a crankshaft issue. Something about the crank not being cleared of machining debris causing bearing and rod failure. I think those were the first engines off the line at the Alabama plant.
Now that you refreshed my memory i do remember something like that..

No problems with any filters on any of our Hyundai or anything else for that matter. OEM is great but so are many others.

Well, they do seem to be fairly well made, stout construction. But 'IF' it matters, not noted for being particularly efficient filters.
As for the H/K TSB been posted and discussed here often. I'll say, aftermarket oil filters are an easy target of blame as they are one part used quite often by owners even while being under warranty.
Based on reading here, seems it's a very limited issue and most members using the aftermarkets have satisfactory results. And iirc, the TSB seemed to specifically target the ecore filters which use combo valves as their bypass. I'd likely avoid that type even on other than H/K vehicles, but especially so on them.

I normally use OEM, I buy in bulk for about $4 a filter. That being said, I have used others without issue in both cars in my SIG, plus my daughters 2012 Elantra. Even a purohater......
