Mal you make sense, IMHO we don't want some nice guy in the oval office, we want some SOB that will stand up to the SOB's of the world. Carter was a nice guy and that cost us some really great guys in the Iranian desert, plus almost everything he touched or had any input on has fallen to pieces. I just had this come to me and since its related here it is;
While I personally disagree with Kerry's opposition to the the Viet Nam War, at least he earned that right. As for the others, while I again disagree with their protests, I sincerely believe that those of us who served, and especially those who sacrificed their health and lives, did so, in part, to preserve the right of free speech for all of us. As for Viet Nam's failure, I personally blame the politicians. The military had the ability had we simply allowed them to do the job. The war would have been short, the casualties relatively low and we would have moved on. But no, we muzzled the military and played politics with the Vietnamese people and perceived world opinion manipulated by China and Russia. Both Dems and Repubs share the blame to some degree.
Lastly, I hate the "I'm more patriotic than you are!" approach politics takes today. We should focus on the qualifications for office and what a persons believes in deep inside. Emotional or "hot button" issues distract us from really knowing a candidate. That makes running for office like a circular firing squad. Everyone gets bloody and the last man standing wins. Whatever happened to the concept we are all Americans before, during and, more importantly, after the election? Author unknown
