I am told that Bug and Tar Remover is just nice smelling Kerosene. Has anyone used Kerosene to strip wax, remove bugs and tar w/o any ill effects to a clear coat paint surface? Recommended or Avoid?

I used to wash my '89 F-150 with about a gallon of kero in the wash bucket. It would bead rain like wax for a few days.

Kerosene is as old skool as old skool gets. It will definitely strip wax and remove tar and grease residue. For bugs an alkaline cleaner works better as bug residue is acidic and petrosolvents don't always remove it.

Any examples of this alkaline cleaner?

I've used several all purpose cleaners and they all seemed to work well.

I have a gallon of this stuff and it's great on bug residue. Dilute it 4:1 or so and it works just fine.

For even more concentration, try this: http://www.topoftheline.com/32ozallpurcl.html

Meguiar's also makes a nice non-acidic APC. http://www.autodetailingsolutions.com/Meguiar's Detailer Line Prices.htm

Scroll down to see their All Purpose Cleaner products. They offer a sampler for about $6.00 if you want to try it.

All these should be similar to that Detailers Pride product linked above.
