I could have posted this in Engine Air filter forum but I thought that people on this forum might be more in knowledge of these small engines whereas that forum is more car based.

I have FR730V and it has an air filter which is without a foam top pre filter.
The FS730V comes with a foam pre filter and is advertised as Dual Element Air filter.
Underneath the basic filter for both is same , just that this extra foam sleeve comes with FS engine.
On Amazon and other places the filter with foam pre filter is shown to fit FR engine as well.

My concern is that these engines might have their carbs adjusted slight differently so putting a foam pre filter on FR air filter might restrict the air flow a bit whereas in FS engine, the pre filter and any restriction it creates might have been considered in the carb configuration.

Pre filter helps to pro long the underlying filter's life so if no adverse effect is made, I will like to put that on my FR engine air filter. What do you think?

I have put links below for both engine specs

What is going to help your Air Filter is 2 blow everything off the machine after you use it. This will also help your engine since it is air cooled. I do the blowing thing after each mowing; I have a 36-inch Ransome Bobcat Walk Behind that I have blown off after each use and is now 35 years old. I watched a dumb YouTube video back in 2015 where a person said the engine was full of debris inside. I took the cover off and there was nothing inside the engine. I was worried about what I saw in the video.

That foam pre-filter will work perfectly well on either engine. The main paper element along with the carburetor jets are the same on both engines, unless you have the fuel injected model. The foam filter is likely used for engines specified in dirtier conditions such as mower. The one that doesn't come with the pre-filter is likely for things like pressure washers.

Get a couple of the foam pre-filters and swap them out frequently and you'll only need to replace the expensive paper element every two hundred hours or so.

Yes, I also thought that paper element is same for both FR730V and FS730V. I was not sure about the Carb though.
Since FS730V is advertised having "Dual element air filtration system" , it appeared a big deal whereas its just the foam pre filters ( perhaps few cents at cost to the company). Both are mower engines just that one is residential and one is commercial so why the company would not put that pre filter on FR730V as well.

Seems like I can just put the pre filter on FR engine.

I bought the "power equipment man" conversion kit, for the FS 651v. Upgrades the FS filter to a Kawasaki FX style donaldson/ 2 stage filter.
Worth every penny, I should have don't it when I bought the mower, 4 years ago.

I like the "power equipment man" conversion kit but it will be difficult to source this in Canada and perhaps expensive as well after Tariffs.
I bought genuine Kawasaki Air filter with a pre filter from Amazon and I can confirm that those will work on FR engines. Its written right at the package that those are for FS engines but optionally can be put on FR engines.
