So, I figure it's time to take out my K&N filter in my WRX for a cleaning cycle. As I've read in previous threads, some people have noticed their K&N filters tend to either show abnormal holes in the media and/or higher level of Si in used oil analysis. So, I really paid attention to the condition of the filter. What do I see when I hold the filter up to the sun? Lots of tiny "pinholes" scattered around the media. Especially on the edges of the pletes. Argh!! I know the oil in the cotton media is supposed to trap dirt/dust but I'm kinda worried some junk could get through. So for now, I put in a standard fram paper filter. I think I might accelerate my OCI just to see how much dirt may have sneaked into the engine.

No more K&N for my rides!!

I've always figured that K&N's aren't worth the money, because it would take a lot of filter changes to equal the price of a K&N. I'll just run the Wix filter for my car, since it's under $15. I put one in 3 years ago and it still looks brand new, there's no visible dirt.
