Just threw away a 12 year old Fram filter

Just found a new 12 year old Fram PH3614 in my garage. Just threw it away, too.

Wait a minute...is it worth cutting up for photos or should I leave it in the garbage can?

I'd cut it up for pics so we can see what fram was like that long ago.

Cut it open and save it. That way if you ever catch anyone you know using a fram you have good proof why they shouldn't.

One more vote to dig it back out and cut it open. Then go buy a new PH 3614 if they still make them and compare them.

Cut it open, I'll bet you find the cardboard endcaps, plastic by-pass valve, etc. I did my own "cut it open" filter study about ten years ago and that's what I remember finding in the Fram then. I guess that makes me a freak from way back.

I cut up an old Fram filter. Still had the cardboard end caps, but had a different ADBV. I think it was a PH-30?

Good thing we don't work at Jiffy Lube, we'd be smuggling used filters out of there daily!!!

Back longer ago than that. They were available at Wal-Mart when it opened here about 1990. I may have been buying then at a local, TSC like chain in the early 80's. It was their wide availability in cheap places that lead me to start chopping stuff open a few years ago when I couldn't find AC's anymore. Conclusion, I would still buy PF 1177 if I came across one, but anything else in the same price class is much better than the Fram. If I can't find an AC, may as well buy an ST.

Not me. I've started using "pre-owned" filters (preferably Fram) five-finger discounted from my nearest Jiffy-Lube's dumpster...

Wasn't Fram the MacDaddy of filters 12 years ago when they were made good? When you had to go to the dealer to get them? Wonder what the changes are from then until now. May be interesting.

The Frams I cut open 25years ago had cardboard ends along with Dad telling me when I was 10/11 years old that Fram's are junk, kept me away from them. He wouldn't even allow them in his gas station, it was Puolator only(which I'm not to fond ofwith their bypass at the wrong end but I do like motocraft even though I don't like Fords.opinions-opinions-opinions everyone has a opinion)
