Man is it a nice looking piece of equipment. And the screen is gorgeous. 27", very clear/clean.

Pretty basic config:
1x Nehalem 2.8
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
Radeon 5770
27" LED Cinema Display

Nice unit.

For more than basic try Quo Computing. They make incredibly fast version of Mac Technology and half the price.
I know a few video editors that have purchased them and like them very much.
For a basic Mac Pro a hackintosh comes ahead in price, but you have to have some experience and knowledge. Google for 'build hackintosh nofilmschool' - it is a project by a cinematography student that is quite stable and compatible.

Sounds nice, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for that hardware. Considering I have better (CPU Excepted) and payed a fraction. What do you use it for?

Done quite a few hackintosh projects myself actually. Most recently a T-series ThinkPad.

Isn't for me. I just get to set it up and play with it a bit

How stable/compatible is your T-Pad build? Worth a try? I have a few T-60 left over from IT days.

It was a T-60 comically enough. I believe I had to use Tiger on it, MAYBE Leopard. It wouldn't run Snow Leopard. It was very stable. The issue was getting the Ethernet and WiFi working.

Apple is THE BEST marketing company anywhere in the world today

Of course it doesn't hurt that Steve Jobs and his company are the "darling" of the media, especially outlets like CNBC. It is sickening to watch the commentators gush with school girl like awe when speaking of Apple.

I won't mention what I think about their products and the prices they charge.

So, you likey the Cinema Display? The wife (finally) gave me permission to buy an IPS monitor and I'm really leaning toward a Thunderbolt Display when they start showing up en masse at the Apple Store. That gives me a few weeks to change my mind... again.

That Samsung unit you posted earlier is mighty tempting too. Mmmm... decisions.

Yes, it is a VERY nice display, I am quite impressed with it.

For now.. It's cyclical. This generation has not been screwed by Apple yet. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Many people pay, because they produce a better product. A geo will get you to work, but others buy BMWs; are they fools for doing so?

Five mac converts over many years. Never a call regarding an issue.

People knock the big dog and then rush to produce a competing Ipad, Iphone, Ipod....

When something is "overpriced and Elitist" in peoples minds, youre not supposed to like it or you will be judged by people who either cant afford it or just dont see why you would pay that kind of money "When there's cheaper stuff out there that does the same thing".

Dell had their mini 9's on sale for $199 a year or two ago, a friend bought one with the sole purpose of placing OS X on it. He did. He is a happy camper. Great to see that OS running on things other than Apple's own expensive hardware.

How many times do we have to go through this?

And I bet the Mac Pro will be working great a long time after yours has had numerous failures. Its all about the grade of the hardware, not the specs.

I have to agree with this (sorry Nick).

This thing is server-grade hardware inside. But the price reflects that.

Mac Pro? Yes, I agree.
Mac Books? No. Laptops fail more often for all sorts of reasons, yes, including Apple-made units.
