Somebody been neutral starting (shifting into gear with the throttle down) like they were drag racing in the 1970's

Were not sure what the ultimate failure was yet. Driver just heard a loud bang and the rig stopped moving. The drive shaft was flipped over the top of the diff.. well what was left of it. That crack goes all the wasy around wand was being supported by the pan
 
Before you apply your JB Weld, be sure to clean the area immediately surrounding the crack on every side of that thing. Otherwise the JB Weld may not bond as strongly as required to permanently fix the crack.
 
Were the mounts in good shape?

I have seen plenty of broken driveshafts, but not a transmission case.

If that Allison was behind a 3406 you would not have found anything to identify the remains. :-)

Don't know about Class 8 trucks, But a drive shaft failure can most certainly do that to a Allison MT643 & other AT545 based units.

Nothing a few ratchet cargo straps can't fix. I saw a picture of 5spd behind a Cummings in a Dodge PU. Ripped the bellhousing off the engine.
