Walmart doesn't have it in their cheapest line.For an older Taurus.
A friend of mine is a warehouse manager for Parts Plus in NYC. He said that they get the battery directly from the manufacturer with the sticker attached. He said Champion Batteries weren't too good so they dropped the line. I think they switched to Bosch.
Perhaps it's not the actual mfg date, but that's plenty of proof to judge the age of the battery.
I'm not convinced it's a store tag; that green sticker has been present on every JCI (now Clarios) battery I've purchased regardless of where I purchased it.
The discs I've seen over the years are differently colored.

That's funny, it's the other way around for Pepboys. They used to carry the Bosch batteries which were made by Exide and they switched to Champion which were made by JCI/Clarios which is considered a better battery maker than Exide.
I like their "Value" line for vehicles not often driven. If they're going to sit for more than 14 days, they're on a maintainer.
It's been a while but I finally talked with my buddy. He said they had a problem way back with Champion and much later with Bosch. He said Champion batteries are made by either Exide or Interstate and both are completely reliable. Parts Plus supplied parts for Pep Boys.

No way I’m paying $41 for a USED battery, that’s a ripoff! Especially when WM Value Power ones are $58, and actually have a 1 year warranty.
The Interstate Econo Power "blem" or "returned" batteries are $50 each and come with a 6-month warranty. And they test them before they sell them. (And are available in sizes that the Wal-Mart Value Power batteries are not).
Good luck getting them in that size.
Not whining about the $4 entrance fee this time
