The remote positive terminal, prominently identified with red, is located at the UBEC, on the left side of the vehicle. The center nut of the nearby strut is a tempting and convenient place to connect the ground cable.

DO NOT use the strut as a ground when jump starting a vehicle. In the case of the VUE, Equinox and Torrent, a remote (unmarked) negative terminal is located in the front of the engine compartment near the engine oil dipstick (fig. 15). This location is shown in the owner's manual.


 
Sounds like they have to prominently mark the negative terminal location as well.

I always hook up red to red and black to black...nah mean...positive of charged battery to postive of dead battery...negative of charged battery to negative of dead battery...Is this wrong?...

Yes! No matter where you make the last connection, you've very likely to get sparks. You do NOT want to make sparks near a battery that you've been trying (or are going to try) to charge. Charging batteries can produce hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas + sparks = ruin-your-day

Make your last (black) connection on the disabled vehicle AWAY from the battery (engine block, body frame, etc).

correct earthing is a must. I saw that 13 years ago on a 660MW stem turbine.

Steam passing through the blades builds up a voltage in the shaft, which is discharged through an earthing brush adjacent to the generator.

We had an earth brush that got coated in epoxy paint when they were trying to pretty the place up for a dignitary tour.

As the stray currents couldn't go through the earth brushes, they found the next easiest route, through the governor drive gear. This spark eroded the worm-wheel, destroying the governor.

Very expensive paint job.

As to where to place the last (black) clamp when connecting a jump...the furthest away from any flammables (hydrogen, gas)...you nearly always get a spark.

So far I haven't exploded yet...Lucky I guess...I will jump start the safe correct way from now on...thanks
 
Sorry to put a damper on the tpic, but what has this to do with the Science and Technology of Oil and Lubricant Additives?
