The Chancellor and his senior staff are aggressively working with the city of Santa Cruz in a collaborative manner on issues that are mutually beneficial. The campus has updated its Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) and the city is updating its General Plan. Issues such as traffic, housing and infrastructure are top priorities for both the city and the university. The project will help to build a positive relationship with the city policy makers and residents and will involve students to promote awareness of good neighbor policies.
4.* What tasks will the intern likely perform? Please limit the ratio of time that the intern spends on miscellaneous office/clerical support tasks that are not in support of their own projects to no more than 15% of the intern's time.
Meet with campus staff to understand the issues
Develop a public awareness campaign and events to promote it
Work with Santa Cruz Neighbors to finalize and implement Good Neighbor Policy and guidelines
various administrative tasks associated with campaign--designing and posting fliers, setting up and attending meetings, writing memos, keeping records, returning phone calls

This will be the fifth year of the program and will continue to build on the success of the previous years. Each internship brings new ideas and new projects for collaboration between the campus and community,

The Chancellor and Vice Chancellors meet bimonthly with the Mayor and city councllmembers. This initiative is part of several ongoing initiatives to collaborate on housing, economic development and traffic relief. The progress and results of this initiative will be reported at these meetings.

Through this project the interns will learn about the LRDP process and the role of government and community relations for the campus and the ways in which the campus interacts wth local government and community organizations
11.* Please describe the intern's primary role in the coordination and implementation of the project and the intern's professional or paraprofessional level of responsibility.
The intern(s) wll be the primary coordinator and implementor of the public information campaign they design. They will be responsible for regularly meeting with the Director to report on the progress of the plan
