Absolutely.

When I went for my interview to drive bus, I was faced with three quarters of the room of commercial semi drivers, many with HAZMAT. I had my pitiful "car class" (G) license only, and about six years of solo driving experience (read: not much compared to the others). We were a total of 78 applicants in that hiring fair.


As most know, I came out, one of three (class later reduced to two, one guy quit after a week).


Just goes to show, a great attitude with lots of optimism will always leave a good impression on the people hiring.

Boomer is giving you fantastic advice. From the last two interviews that I have been to, those are the types of questions that they will be asking you.

I have an interview on Wednesday as well, so I guess I'll be preparing too.

1. What is your greatest weakness? How do you know? How are you working to overcome it?
2. Give us an example of a failed project in which you were involved. How did you deal with it?
3. What are your long term goals for your career?
4. Tell us about tema of which you were a part. Can you function as a follower as well as a leader?

1. I'm lazy. It's painfully apparent. I'm not, it makes me innovate instead of throwing gross effort at something.
2. (para) combat conditions damage control. It's common sense to glean the most out of your failures and minimize the impact of them.
3. To park my behind in as big a chair as possible with the fattest wallet possible to pay the bills. Having fun along the way.
4. Team efforts require the ability to accept leadership from others if it produces the greatest yield in outcomes ..or exercise leadership if current efforts fail to produce it. Wisdom is needed in when to employ yourself in either position.

Having a positive attitude helps with any interview, even if you aren't fully qualified for that position.


Yes, I am sure it was.
I just found the study intresting. They sent people on the same interviews with the same qualifications. For the mostpart, the black suit and blue shirt got the offer.

Tomorrow is the big day for me. I've taken all of the advice given in this thread to heart. I have prepared as best I can for the interview. I'm hoping for the best, and trying to maintain a positive attitude, which is difficult when you are laid off.

My interview is at 9:00 Tuesday morning. I'll make sure and let you all know how the interview went. Wish me good luck, and pass me some good karma.

Be yourself and sell your integrity, honesty, and loyalty.

In addition to all the great advice already given, I think you need to be prepared to address this, if it comes up.

Some people will try to bluff their way through this and it is painfully obvious to the interviewer. Others with 100% of the technical skills will come across as arrogant, all knowing, but lacking in "emotional/social" IQ skill.

It's my opinion that it is good to show some "guarded" honesty regarding stuff you don't know. BUT, follow up with a statement to the effect: "however, on this past project (S.T.A.R.)I learned (and improved) this new technique which resulted in the very successful completion of bla bla bla".

A good company is looking for more than a set of technical skills. They want a whole person who will rise to ALL of the challenges life spits out. The above example demonstrates CONFIDENCE, both in yourself and for your employer. It's a fine line showing your competence without being over bearing.

INTERVIEW POSTPONED!

So I'm on my way to my interview this morning, when the lady from H.R. calls me on my cell. She informs me that the gentleman that will be interviewing me had his water heater [censored] out on him at home. He will not be in today, so we will have to re-schedule for Thursday. I guess I could look on the bright side, and say this give me more time to prepare..

Additionally, there may be some guilt on his part for missing the interview. Keep positive.

Not only that, but it will give you something easy to "break the ice", so to speak of. Ask him if the heater went up like a ballistic missile on Myth Busters.

Gives me time to share my perspective as someone who has hired folks in the past.

The person interviewing you may be as nervous as you are. Why? They don't want to make a $100 grand mistake and choose the wrong person.

As others have said, it's not just technical knowledge, but will you make a good fit with the team. One of the biggest challenges is to make the interviewer(s) comfortable with you being on the team.

So it's not just knowledge, but addressing any concerns they may have about you.

Also, look like you've done your homework. It's not just about selling yourself for the job. You want to look to make sure the job, the team, etc is for you. You don't want to pick just because it's a job, you want to pick a job because it's for you.

Ask questions about the job, the team, etc.
