Sisters 2013 Jetta Sportwagen 2.5 coolant light came on when I was visiting. Stopped at parts place in her town that had Yellow supposedly good for all colors. Adding about a pint solved warning light problem. checked VW Owner Manual that said use VW pink Fluid. Now that I am home I discovered that the VW fluid is life time and does not need to be changed periodically. Saw that Peak Purple is for Euro cars. Will a pint of Yellow for all colors cause problems?

Just found out Timing chain is lifetime. Car only has 106,000 miles on it from new. At what mileage would it be prudent to change it? 200,000, 300,000?

Universal coolant is a myth.

Checking the owners manual before hand would be the way to go.

Adding insult to injury most parts stores around here have Pentofrost in the back, which offer one that is compatible.

I personally would not mix it.

I had someone add a universal to a G series coolant without me knowing and it was a mess after a while. Said person is now forbidden to open hood of anything under my care. It is the kinda help i can do without.

which one?

Peak makes a few universal coolants, and they're all the same color :sneaky:

Peak Global Lifetime comes in a gold color bottle. This is good stuff, no 2-EHA
Peak 10x comes in a blue bottle. Also good stuff, no 2-EHA
Peak All vehicles, looks like 10x but doesn't say 10x on it, has 2-EHA
Peak Titanium, similar to 10x, no 2-EHA

Do you still have the bottle? :D

Owners manual said M4.0 coolant - VW Pink

You can use Zerex G40 :)

Zerex is just as good but costs much less :D

I've never seen anything like "M4.0" on anything VW. This Sportwagen should've come with VW G12++ or G13 from the factory, both pink/purple. You could use VW G12++, G13 or G12evo (the latest, still compatible).
That said, if I had to add a neglibible amount I'd just add destilled water. A tiny amount wouldn't change frost protecting worth to speak from. However, WHY needed to add coolant? I never ever needed to add coolant, honestly never ever.

Needed to add because dash coolant light came on, Looked in the reservoir and level was low. I agree, a pint of distilled water would be better. Car is 12 years old.

Zerex G40 is usually the easiest to find if you don't want to grab some newer spec stuff from the dealer. It's equivalent to VW G13.

Those engines aren't nearly as prone to timing chain failure as that generation 2.0T. Some go to 200,000 miles before needing it. If I didn't know the complete service life I'd probably consider getting them done soon. If it's had oil changes every 5k I might gamble for another 100k.

Best way to tell for certain is to measure chain stretch through one of the diagnostic tools (VCDS, OBD11). Usually when the camshaft adaptation angle approaches -4-5 degrees, it's time to start thinking about replacement. Rumor has it, dirty oil and long change intervals can contribute to chain stretch.

The term "lifetime" of the vehicle is disconnected between what most people [here] would describe it as, compared to what the manufacturer believes it is. How many miles do you think they would guarantee on the vehicle--how long did they warrant it?
