I got a message today on father-in-laws Jeep Renegade of SERVICE PASSIVE ENTRY warning accompanied by the immobilizer and key symbol. Putting what I found here for others to maybe help. The fix came from JeepRenegadeForum.
Disconnecting the negative terminal for just over 1 minute got rid of the message in father in laws 2016 TrailHawk. I didn't try any of the other versions discussed at the other forum. Conveniently no tools needed. Jeep (Fiat) gives a thumb tab lever on the negative terminal almost like they expect you to need disconnect and reboot it at times.
Back story- besides that I came home from work and he was waiting with "what does this symbol mean"? "I searched everywhere and it gives so many reasons etc" He's not the sharpest knife all the time. He didn't give me the message it showed so I searched online for Jeep Renegade immobilizer first. Then I went and check the fobs, saw message, checked battery and went back to the forum.
Vehicle battery was replaced 6 months ago. Solar BA9 battery tester showed 12.65V and 740 CCA (rated at 730). Both key fob batteries had been replaced last month as one gave the low fob battery warning. Both of the fobs today gave the service passive entry screen.
Disconnect negative terminal to reboot worked for his today. Message is gone with both fobs.
