Jeep Recommendation

A 5w30 or 5w-40 synth is fine. The PREFERRED notation with 10w-30 is for conventional oil and is a leftover from shear prone days. I imagine (an opinion) that the engineers didn't "want" to even put 5w30 on the list, but figured that even with the potential effects of shearing the thing would outlast most life cycle models of most of the rolling US fleet.

Use any weight you want in any 4 season climate that's above 0F. If you want to save some fuel in the warmup process, use lighter stuff during that OCI.

I know you said you don't like switching, but if it were my 'like new Jeep', I'd go with the 5w30 for a winter OC. And do 10W-30 for the other 2 or 3. Synthetic or conventional to be determined by how many miles I'm driving.

I'm on my 25th year owning Jeep (2 CJ's, 1 TJ 4 cyl., 3 Saharas and currently a '04 Rubicon with 3500 miles (no [censored]). Always used synthetic in xxW-40 or even 50. Never had a problem with these engines. They really are bulletprof. One CJ went 120K miles with absolutely no problems. Use a xxW-40 Synth. and a premium filter and "Forget about it".Just my 2 cents.

All good replies. I didn't even think about the flat tappet cam issue. I've decided to use the Platinum 5W-40. That should cover all the bases.

Critic, yes, I sold the Prius. Hate to give up the gas mileage but I needed something to get me off road.

Where you findin that 5W-40? Or do you have special connections, considering your avatar? BTW, I think your viscosity choice is the best overall choice for your location for year round use. 0W-40 would be a winner, too.
