Jeep 4.0 & VW Golf TDI

Hello.

My Jeep 4.0 has 152,000 miles on it.
I drained a qt. of Mobil 1 0w40 that had 6,000 miles.
I replace that w. 1 qt. MMO to clean it up.
I went to Boston for ARMY from NJ.
I Brake booster Sea Foamed it & drove it back.
I drove it back HARD.
800 miles later, its time for my OCI.

My friend has a 2002 Golf TDI.
He has 130,000 miles on it.
He's getting a new Turbo.
I told him to change his oil too.

What 1 oil should I buy for both vehicals?

Mobil 1 0w40? Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck (5-40)? GC? Rotella? PU? Valvoline Next Gen? Any suggestions? OCI's Sunday.

The Jeep doesn't need anything very thick, but if you want one variety of oil for everything, any of the first four would do nicely.

ill be posting a used oil analysis of Mobil 1 0w-40 in a 4.0 soon.

my 4.0 really liked Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck and then i am running Mobil 1 0w-40 now. both run great and the oil looks great on the dipstick after 5 months now 3500 miles alot of which is short trips. so if the used oil analysis turns out good ill run Mobil 1 0w-40 forever in my 4.0

I don't believe one oil will suite both vehicles optimally.

I suggest you use a diesel rated oil in the TDI. The jeep will be fine with the correct spec'd Mobil 1, Pennzoil Ultra, Valvoline NextGen.

Rotella T6 5w40 or Mobil 1 0w40 would be my choices.

I'm running Valvoline Nextgen Maxlife. I have a 95 wrangler with the 4.0. Valvoline returns really good used oil analysis.

I run Pennzoil Ultra 10W30 in my Jeep 4.0. I am pretty sure the owners manual calls for a 10W30.

why did the turbo fail in the tdi? and are you sure it is actually the turbo?

German Castrol 0w30 or Mobil 1 0W-40 for the Golf
Castrol High Mileage or QS Defy 10w30 in the Jeep.

Why did the Turbo fall apart? I don't know 2004TDIGLS, isn't that usual for a TDI with that many miles on it? Do tell.

Great suggestions! If I were going to try to get away with one oil I'd probably give Rotella T6 5w40 a shot. Actually the 0w30 Castrol or Mobil 1 0w40 he suggested would probably work well in both too.
