JB Eliminator vacuum pump suitable for automotive?

My pawn shop has a JB DV-6E with an asking price of $275. Appears used but does include the original box and manual.

Appears to be $484 on Amazon right now:

I imagine they'd take $225 cash. Is 6 CFM too much for automotive? Is that a dumb question? <---- I'm good at dumb questions.

These things are relatively huge and heavy -- feels quality! Should I try for it?

I use a 6 CFM Yellow Jacket. Works fine for automotive.

That should be good AS LONG AS IT"S NOT WORN OUT. Make sure it has oil in it, it's clean oil, and start it up. Make sure it sounds okay, compared to one on YT. If it sounds okay and will hold vacuum, it should serve you well.

If you have access to a micron gauge, make sure it can pull below 100, preferably below 50. More CFM=MORE performance, so more is better! You’ll need a 3/8” cap or flare to cap off that top fitting, and possibly an adapter to go from 1/4” flare to Acme fittings for newer (non R-12) vehicles.

That Eliminator pulls to 25 micron. It should be fine for automotive work. 6 CFM will get you there faster.
I have a Pittsburgh (HF). Pulls to 22, but only 3CFM. Evacuates a bit slower. But it's just a hobbyist/occasional use model.

Yeah they are good pumps! JB makes one of the best vacuum pumps in the hvac industry. Keep the oil changed in it and it will serve you well for a very long time.

6 CFM is a good flow rate for automotive A/C evacuation. I have a Robinaire 6 CFM Cooltech vacuum pump and it gets the negative pressure down in a hurry. I'd buy the JB Pump for $225 if you can verify that it works correctly. Probably can connect a set of gauges to it and draw the vacuum down to ~25 micron shut it off, isolate it and confirm it doesn't lose vacuum after 15 minutes.

From what can be seen of the sight glass in the picture, I can't see any oil.
