I've switched to Mozilla from Firefox on 1ghz Mac

I have a 4 year old Mac PowerBook G4 with the old PC-133 RAM (1GB of it). Firefox runs lethargically slow. Safari runs spritely, but it lacks the functionality of the Mozilla browsers.

So I tried plain-jane Mozilla for Mac. It's a touch slower than Safari, but noticeably more responsive than Firefox.

Running Firefox on a G4 tower Mac, 733mhz with 512MB ram wasn't as painful as running FF on this Powerbook. Dunno why. Anyone else this lackluster Firefox performace with older computers/Macs?

(all Macs running 10.4.x)

pipelining is enabled on FF, not on Mozilla. I'll play around with those settings...

Same thing with FireFox being slow on my iBook G3 700MHz with 784 mb PC 133 RAM. Camino is faster.

90slteg, good to know I'm not the only one seeing this performance problem.

I like Camino! I don't believe it offers a Sidebar that IE/Mozilla offers. I like putting my bookmarks on the left side in the Sidebar. Is there a Sidebar feature in Camino?

(Sidebar sounds like something with creamy nougat and caramel! LOL)

I have a PowerBook G4 also. I have all of the browsers mentioned previously, but I always end up using Safari because it just feels easier for me to use.

After toying around with this for quite some time, but never leaving the Firefox/Mozilla camp, Opera has changed my mind.

It's much more responsive to page loading, keystrokes and is generally much more snappier.

Plus it allows for bookmarks to be listed on the left pane, just like Firefox. A feature that is a must have for me.

Bottom line: it adds life to this old Powerbook.

You just gotta try em all. I'm using one called "Flock" right now on my mac. Opera is one of the most web standards compliant browsers available.

So True!

I spend ridicules amounts of time making sure any web-work I do works on all browsers. It is always IE7 that ends up being the culprit. FF is a little finicky too at times but opera and safari always seem to render properly the 1st time. Browsers need to be more css compliant also but thats a whole diff discussion.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did tryCamino, but it doesn't put the bookmarks in a left-side pane. What a pain! (bad pun alert!
