Sounds like something intermittent. My problem was the O2 sensor ('93 Civic), cut out/in, ran rich then normal, but because it was intermittent the computer never raised the "check engine" light. It's always hard to find a good mechanic!

Berge,

I am a bit confused.

First you discussed a sticking TCC and now you're talking about low idle.

Did you put some ARX in your engine as well as your transmission?

If problem stopped as you state (after flushing out contaminated fluid ) than started again would think you still have "crud" in your transmission.
Since your using a manual flush procedure would suggest you flush again. Fill with new fluid and drive fo a 500 miles. Please post.

did as suggested.
problem remains.

That solenoid costs Honda about 5 bucks (US).
I'd do some serious searching on the net before paying them 150. If you come up empty, try your local Honda independent repair shop & ask them if they have a source.

I was also wondering about the IAC - Idle Air Control. Look at the service manual and clean it if possible. If that doesn't help. buy the TCC solenoid and replace it yourself. A solenoid can act up because it is sticking (Auto-RX may unstick), electrically bad ( needs to be replaced) or mechanically malfunctioning ( Auto-RX wont help, needs replacing.)

I cleaned the IAC first, then replaced it. no change. that's when I realized it was a transmission issue.

the transmission has started to vibrate at idle, there are noises and the 2-1 downshift at coast has become noticeably harsh.
a TCC lockup solenoid is about $200Cdn. I cannot install it myself because the transmission has to be dropped at least a couple of inches to access below the firewall. Figure another $200 for labour. total $400.
I have found that the prices of used JDM engines/transmissions have dropped substantially in toronto in the last year alone. whether its competition or low demand/weak economy, I don't know. I can get a warranteed used JDM transmission for $500 Cdn. +$500 installation. $1000total.

I'm a little sick of tracking this problem and just want to get it fixed. $1000 for a guaranteed fix versus $400 for a maybe and I'll take the safe route.

thanks everyone for the help.

JDM transmission installed.
mechanic is regretting taking on the job instead of letting the importer do the installation. first transmission turned out no good.
second one is fine.
mechanic is tired but happy.

$1200CDN installed, I'm ecstatic.
