Just stopped taking Fish Oil due to stomach cramps and getting a ton of gas from it...Plus it was keeping me in the restroom a lot...All that came to a stop after I stopped taking it...This happened to a least 2 people I know...Anyone one else have issues with it?

I use Flax Seed Oil which can be purchased at any of the usual stores that sell vitamins and minerals. I also use it on cereal in the mornings.

Wal-Mart sells ground Flax in the same area as flower, etc.

Between that and being real careful eating red meat, etc., have been avoiding taking any prescription meds now for several years.

As always work with your doctors'. Problem I had was changing those old eating habits. Doctors' "said if it tastes good, spit it out!"

I can have a Steak every "Blue Moon".

Hit the bit 68 soon. Better being over the hill than under it!

I was more worried about elevated levels of mercury from fish oil tablets. I now use flax seed oil. After changing my diet (including the addition of flaxseed oil), I was able to get my cholesterol down to 180-ish from 270. My doctor wanted to put me on Crestor, which would have cost me about $130/month for approximately the same result.

I still have the occasional steak, but not nearly as much as I used to and in much smaller portions.

No problems here, but YMMV. Flax is a good substitute if you cant tolerate fish oil. And flaxseed is available at any health food store. Put some in your morning cereal, and you are good to go.

There are different types of fish oil out there. I'm not an expert, but you have to look at how much EPA and DHA the actual capsules have in it. One higher than another could be causing your problem. I've been on fish oil for about two years and have yet noticed any kind of differences on how I usually was before taking it. In fact, your the first I've heard of this issue. I use to take the Sam's 1200 mg fish oil, but recently switched to Walgreen's, Finest Natural, as they had a buy one, get one free thing going. Stuff ain't cheap.

No it is not liquid...It is Finest Natural 1000 mg softgels.

Been taking fish oil capsules for over a year and have had no gastrointestinal problems. Did have one capsule leak in the bottle though - OMG the stuff reeks! Will get the mint flavored capsules next time...

OK...I see I am not alone...I lost 8 pounds taking it...I went from 140 lbs to 132 lbs.

We give Lovaza to our dog, it makes him [censored] like a champ (his owner). Just an FYI, did you know that Lovaza, the prescription "fish oil", has partially hydrogenated oil in it? That is a trans fat, very bad for heart health and is exactily why most people are taking it in the first place.

That's funny, the word f$#t is censored!

If you are using unsaturated fats in cooking and margarine, you should be getting all the unsaturated fat you need. What you really need to do is cut out saturated fat and avoid partly hydrogenated fats.

As for flax and fish oil, corn oil is just as unsaturated and cheaper and better tasting. Save the linseed oil for paint.

Try Flaxseed oil, your complaints are not uncommon. As far as Mercury is concerned with the fish oil, the better companies take precautions to be sure the fish doesn't contain Mercury.

Add me to the list of flaxseed oil fans.

I used to take fish oil, they make some that are designed to pass through your stomach and be digested in the small intestine, they worked for me. I never had any of the problems you mentioned.

Enteric coated is the wording, I believe. Some manufacturers of aspirin use it, too.
