Is TV getting even worse?

It's everything that's wrong with America. And it's TLC's (The Learning Channel) highest rated show.

Wow....

Now that is depressing.

It certainly didn't used to be this way....at least not in the same fashion as it is today. We almost celebrate negativity and anger today....and think it's 'cool' to look mean and nasty as well as walk around in our daily attire trying to look like a 'tough guy'. TV keeps influencing society in such things, in my opinion. We've not become better for it, that's for sure. I'm no pansy however....I served in the Army, carry a firearm, and am a somewhat athletic individual....but as I near 50 years of age I've come to realize that all this negative garbage (and it gets worse every year) that is on TV and other forms of media, does NOTHING to enhance or improve my life and may even contribute to making it less than it can be by allowing it to soak into my head. It's how I feel about it. I know all about the realities of life. I know what goes on in this country....I experience it in front of my eyes every time I drive to work. When it comes to my entertainment, I would rather focus on other, more positive and enlightening things that don't revolve so much around the nasty side of life.

TV is a form of fast food brainwashing for people who don't want to, or can't, think.

Can't think? Just go through the TV drive through and they will tell you how to think.

From Wikipedia
Quote:
Most Star Trek stories depict the adventures of humans and aliens who serve in Starfleet, the space-borne humanitarian and peacekeeping armada of the United Federation of Planets. The protagonists have altruistic values, and must apply these ideals to difficult dilemmas. Many of the conflicts and political dimensions of Star Trek represent allegories of contemporary cultural realities. Star Trek: The Original Series addressed issues of the 1960s, just as later spin-offs have reflected issues of their respective decades. Issues depicted in the various series include war and peace, the value of personal loyalty, authoritarianism, imperialism, class warfare, economics, racism, religion, human rights, sexism, feminism, and the role of technology. Roddenberry stated: "[By creating] a new world with new rules, I could make statements about sex, religion, Vietnam, politics, and intercontinental missiles. Indeed, we did make them on Star Trek: we were sending messages and fortunately they all got by the network."
